Today I was driving my girl friend's old civic, her brother and his friend were in the car, and I tried to show them drifting, so when I turned, I used hand brake, I did well at most of turn, but I missed one turn, I turned too little, and the car hit the sidewalk, it made a big sound, and the tire became a weird shape, can't drive it nomore, not only because the tire, the door won't open, either. My girl friend wasn't mad at me, and their parents didn't ask me to pay, they said the car is too old, it wasting money to fix it. They asked me to drive carefully, and I swear I won't drift on the road again, it's heck sacred.

haha my friend did that to his ex-camaro in a church parking lot.

except he jumped a curb, went down the hill, and landed on the road below. it broke both wheels on the driver side and messed up the ground effects pretty bad.

Wait for winter at least .. that's what we do here. thumbsup

But I guess snow doesn't come to cali too often. Drifting was probably invented by Canadians or maybe the Russians. grin

coulda slid and hit another car. then i think outcome would be different. I think drifting originated from rally racing.

I've drifted in my friends Ford Escort before, not the funnest or easiest thing to do but I pulled it off. On the other hand you should never, EVER drift with 4 people in a car, maybe 1 passenger but thats it, it throws off the balance too much and it is very hard to adjust to that kind of weight. I think that what you were doing is considered more of a power slide, unless you really did go into full counter steer. Also what yr civic was it?

I hope you learned your lesson. pulling the ebrake willmake the back end slide out but if you dont have a good enough sway bar itll just screw the toe and camber of the back wheels to hell. also doing it in a stock civic your lucky you didnt flip the bitch over. but shit im not here to judge or make fun of you cause i did the same shit already smile. but then again my car was already going to the junk yard so i didnt care what happened.

just walk it off and remember from your mistake.

It's pointless to drift in a FWD car. RWD cars need to slide because they don't handle like FWD cars in close, sharp turns at high speeds. I know everyone hates F&F, but remember the eclipse escaping from the two cops cars trying to block him? But I'd prefer a RWD for road racing and s-curve twisties at high speed.
Instead of drifting a FWD, just let off the gas a little in the beginning of the turn, swing the rear around and get back on the gas quickly just before you're pointed where you want to go. Use a little countersteer if necessary and use your front drive wheels to pull your car in the right direction. Most of the weight is in the front so don't worry about spinning out unless you get back on the gas way too late. The result is making a sharp 90 degree turn...something which you can't come close to in a RWD car without drifting, and still the angle won't be the same.
The above is all very intuitive in a FWD car and you may not even notice you are modulating the gas if you already figured out how to drive the celica in sharp turns. If you want to do it fast and perfectly though, you need to look at the corner and destination ahead of time, and focus on matching timing with distance and speed. Every situation is different, and so you must become one with the car and feel the turn.

Why were you trying that with all those people in a car. Plus drifting takes time to practice on a track.

WHO DRIFTS IN A FRONT WHEEL DRIVE CAR?! - You won't get any pussy or props for it - EVEN FOR BEING IN A CRAPTACULAR CIVIC RICEBOY.
