TRD Exhaust
I got my TRD exhaust a couple of days ago. At first, it sounded really quiet. My Injen CAI drown out the exhaust when I floored. Now, I have 300+ miles on it, it is starting to sound louder. Now, I know why people get ticket for their TRD exhaust. hahahhahah... I made sure I have my certificate with me at all time. smile

I managed to put over 500 mile on it within a week. The exhaust has a low grawl sounds at idle and gets louder as I floored it. I can hear the exhaust now and not just the CAI. For $440, it is one of the best mods out there, IMO.

Yea i heard that the TRD take a while to "break in". Is the exaust deeper than the stock GTS exaust at high rpm? Ive heard the TRD at low rpm and it sounds great, but raspy and buzzing exausts are not my thing. BZZZZZZZZ grin

Oh yea, did you do the install yourself? If so how long did it take and how hard was it to install? My favorite two exhausts right now are TRD and the Greddy Evo. Performancewise they are about the same i believe

im pretty sure the greddy exhaust actually gives off close to 9 hp whereas the TRD gives off a little over 5, not significant but some people want to squeeze every hp out of our car. also if you think the TRD exhuast is quiet and that bothers you dont even think of the greddy because personally it sounds like its almost quiter then stock.

That's what I heard about the Greddy. The TRD is just a bit louder than stock. You can't hear it at cruising speed.

How difficult is the install if you do it yourself?

It is not that hard if you have the tools. I think the hard part were to get the exhaust out of the rubber hangers. Also, i heard the bolts can be a pain in ass too. Other than this is just unbolt the stock and bolt on the TRD.

I have neither the tools nor the desire to get under the car. So, I had Carson Toyota do it for $45. It was part of the deal I had with Steve. I think they normally charge $65.

Do not pay to have this put in. This is a great opportunity for you and your celica to become better friends. It is not that hard to install as long as you have a friend and two good jacks to hold the car up. Both of those exhaust are bolt on applications and are easy to put on. Also this will allow you to save money on an install, like others, that is not worth spending money on to have put in.

i wouldnt quite say easy, since a first time exhuast install does require a crapload of torque behind the two bolts, which could result in the car falling on yourself, but its definitely not worth a dime more than a buck for the install unless you get a warranty with it...then pay $10 no less at toyota smile

Shit! The Toyota dealer charged me $119 to install my TRD exhaust! cry That's the going rate where I live. That's the price I pay for being an ignorant ass when it comes to car repairs.

A magazine add I read online had their exhaust "shoot out". 9 different exhaust makers donated their exhausts to the Celica GTS, the first car to partake in the shoot out. Among those fighting were the Veilside Teardrop, Tanabe, 5Zigen Fireball, TRD, and Greddy. While Greddy claims 14 or 9, it was actually TRD that one the competiton with about 6.5 hp (I think..been 10 months since I read this). All I know is that I found the best price I could and ordered the TRD exhaust a week later. Still got raped on it pricewise. Bastards. Greddy came in second with 6.2 hp (Again, I'm pulling this from a Blurred memory).

TIME OUT!!! I took 2 minutes and found it for ya'll! Just giving back to the community that has given me endless hours of no sleep!! Thanks!!

Almost had it right... TRD did win with a 5.7 hp gain. (166.7<-->161.0)
