how to install footwell neons without a switch so they come on when the headlights come on. I've done a search but don't understand if I hook up to cig lighter if this will work without a switch.

If you hook it up to the cig lighter, they will be on whenever your car is on. Just hook it to your parking light wire. thumbsup

You could use a fuse "tap" to tap into the one of the headlight fuses. The fuses are only active when the lights are on hence so would your neons. Just go to Autozone and they should have fuse "taps" near the fuses although I can't remember what they are called for real. That should work. It would probably be wise to install a switch anyway though just in case you ever need to turn them off (say if you get pulled over) wink.
