Ok... so a week ago I was minding my own business and sitting at a read light. I look up in my rear view mirror and see a red civic barreling down on me. I say, "This looks like it could be bad." Sure enough, BAM!! Slammed right into the back of me. Turns out the girl was 16 and only had been driving for 6 months. Her entire front end was destroyed. My rear end has been banged up pretty bad. Nobody was seriously hurt, meaning that nobody had to leave in an ambulance.
I feel that my car should be totalled. It is a 2002 GT with 50,xxx miles on it. They say the car is valued at over $14,000, and in order to be totalled, the amount of damages needs to exceed 75% of the value of the car. That means I need at least $10,000 in damages. They're telling me that there is only $7,000 in damages. I do not want the car to be repaired because it will never be the same. I was thinking of taking the $7,000 and then selling the wrecked car to a local salvage yard for $5,000. Then I'll take that $12,000 plus whatever I get from medical compensation to get a new car.
As far as medical goes, let me tell you, I'm hurting! My lower back hurts, my neck hurts, my left leg goes numb at times because of the pain in my back, and I've had a headache since the accident because of the pain in my neck. I can't sleep at night. I can't work because I can't stay on my feet for extended periods of time. I told the insurance company I am taking an attorney for the case. We'll see how that goes.
I don't have any pictures yet because my scanner is out of commission. Her insurance company is Travelers Inc. and she is fully covered. I have State Farm with full coverage.

Sue her. If you don't know how to drive, shouldn't be driving.

lots of liability on her part, sitting at a red light and getting smacked and you got medical issues...
i bet her insurance company is holding their breath 'bout your compensation claim...

The property appraiser is really pissing me off. Especially since I'm not even in the mood to be dealing with this. I'm so drugged up with the Vicodin and muscle relaxers that I don't even know what is going on. I've had people be with me when they come to see the car just so I don't make any mistakes and sign something while I'm all drugged up. As far as medical issues go, they haven't said much beyond, "We want to wait and see how you turn out." I've already been to the ER once, the family doctor once, and I just started physical therapy three times a week for my neck, back, and numbness in my leg. I fell I am entitled to some severe compensation because it hurts to even walk around!!

I realize it is still early, but I have been thinking of what car I want to get to replace my Celica. I don't think I would want another Celica simply because of the lack of power and I am not a fan of the way the newer ones look. Instead, I've been looking at getting either an Evolution or a RX-8. They are entirely different cars. I am leaning towards the Evo. It has caught my eye since it first hit the market (if only I had waited a year before buying my Celica ). I'm looking at getting a Tarmac Black Evo with the cloth interior. I looking at one with leather, but I'm not a big fan of leather. I was also contemplating getting an SRT-4. It's $10,000 less expensive, but I don't fit so well in it. At 6'4" and 200 lbs, it's not the car for me. That's it, I'm sold. Evo it is!!

First off, don't sign anything the insurance company throws your way, and don't let them tape record any conversations. I'd get a lawyer if you havn't already, and as for the car, just get it fixed if it isn't too bad. It will be better than before the wreck most likely.

It will be better than before the wreck most likely. Somehow, I doubt that. My car was pristine. I wish I could show pictures. I just spoke with a guy who is willing to pay me $4,000 for the wrecked car if the insurance company doesn't total it, which it looks like won't happen. Now I just need a fair financial settlement.

What car to get is the least of your concerns. The most important thing is to find out how bad your back is.

What car to get is the least of your concerns. The most important thing is to find out how bad your back is. exactly... from the symptoms you've described, it sounds to me like you are experiencing sciatica and severe whiplash. Hopefully it's nothing more serious than that - physical rehab should be all that's required, along with pain killers as needed. Be careful of the vicodin - that's some powerful stuff bro
