I got pulled over Sun. by the fuzz for being over due on my inspection for 3 months. So I go on Mon. to get my car inspected. First off I didn't remember the last time that they pull the codes from your ECU. Second a check light is fail, and third, I was the only one of 50 some what cars that had their hoods popped and engine checked. I failed on two counts. Neither serious and 1 of which I knew might not pass. I failed because of Andy's overlays. No offense to Andy. He makes a great product. I love them and will probably order new ones after I rip the old ones off for re-inspection. The second was for my gas cap. Some of the employees couldn't even open the doors of some of those rusted tin cans and they failed me for a gas cap. Who cars my car is 2" of the ground, or I have the worst alignment known to man, or that mother stalled my car 4 times because my clutch is going, or my brakes need a serious overhaul. A gas cap, probably for emissions, is more important to the clean air folks I guess. Money isn't the issue with any of my problems to get fixed. It's just that they failed me for the most insignificant thing.

In line I was behind a green Saturn and a R/T behind me. An attendant walked out put a big red cone behind the Saturn and me and told me to go in the right lane. I obliged and followed the directions and signaled the truck guy to do the same, figuring that bay was closing. 20 mins. later as the other cars in the lane that the Saturn guy was in moved up 3-4 car lengths and he didn't move, another attendant came out and took the big red cone away. He told me, "Go around him if you want. I think he's sleeping." I was like what the F**k! They didn't even try to wake him. He could've had a heart attack and died and all they would have given him is a big red cone and a voice that said go around him. Some guy in a van in the far left lane woke him. Only in NJ.

I don't understand. Why would overlays cause a failed inspection? Where did you have them, on the headlights?

That sux.

On my last car, I went in for a smog check and I failed the test, but the guy didn't tell me. He just told me to get my timing reset. I didn't have a certificate because I thought he was sending it the DMV. Emissions are such bullshit. thumbsdown

I had them on the tail lights. I'm sure primary lights are illegal for any tint. I don't know if that includes the tails. I wasn't going to argue w/the workers, because it's no big thing to me. I'll just rip them off and get them again. I'm not sure if there's a law saying at least 65% of light will show through and you pass. I don't really care. I will get the gas cap and the new vinyl. I'll Pass the inspection and then put the vinyl back on. Gives me 2 more years and by then my car is sold. BTW, I never got stopped, pulled over, or ticketed for the smoked tail lights. Even when I was pulled over nothing was ever mentioned about my tail lights.
