I have a 00 GTS 6 speed, and I was driving to work this morning and as soon as I tried to give it some gas after 4k rpms the car would surge forward and then bog, similar to being at 1.5k rpms, and then it would surge again and then bogg w/ no almost no power. I let off the gas and dropped it to around 3k and it drove normal the last 1/2 mile to work. Any suggestions? Note: the car was completly warmed up, its right at 60k miles, just had an oil change. My Dad drove the car yesterday and told me about the problem, but I told him that he was just driving it cold. I hadnt had any problems prior. Please help.

I know what you are talking about in first, thats what I thought my dad was describing to me. This was when I was in third gear.

3rd gear? Hmm...I dunno about that. This happens often or on and off? Usually in 3rd gear, you will be smooth sailing. 2nd might be a possibility.

Clean out the MAF maybe?

My only idea would be to clean the MAF, but if it was that i would think that it would do it through the entire rpm range. Wish i was more help.

Im gonna try cleaning my maf, because i drove it home for lunch and it wasnt acting up as much. I'd feel a big bog after each shift, but i took it up to 5k part throttle and it wasnt surging.

mine did that once... it bogged from about 3500 to 4000... so i drove it hard for like 1/2 an hour and the bogging went away... i think it was just oil from my CAI filter that had got into something...

Maybe you should open her up once in a while. I open my car up (gun it, full throttle, wateva you wanna call it) and see some black smoke coming out of the exhaust for like 2 sec... That'll burn everything up inside the engine(^_^) the car acts fine after doing that

maybe it's because your car was running cold? did you let it warm up before you took off? i say MAF is best bet too. That's funny. Bakersfield has nice roads to pull on. Take advantage of that. LA doesn't have that many wide open roads. My cousin lives up there, sometimes my bro drives his supra up or i drive my celica up and we just race around. The only thing that's annoying are those all white po-po vehicles. In LA it's easy to spot a cop. Bakersfield, i always think it's just an old person driving a ford crown victoria.

Everyone here needs to stop cleaning their MAFS when you do that you BREAK it. It seems to help for a little while but after little more than a week it shorts out. Ive had that same problem with my car, although mine also had no lift operation. If thats the problem theres a TSB to fix this bolt, i got a that done and swapped my MAFS and viola-problem solved. The guys at Toyota dont recommend cleaning the MAFS with anything more than a dry Q-tip or something, spraying liquid in there screws it up.
