hey guys, i've finally decided to get off my ass and do something about my rusted brake calipers and drums (i know rolleyes but my uncle won't switch em for me angry). I bought duplicolor high heat ceramic paint in black and white. I plan to make a simple template of the "CELICA" logo and paint it on the calipers. I will post pictures after i have completed the project. grin

ok, an update. I got the stencil made so i can paint celica on the caliper. The funny thing about our caliper is that it doesn't really have too much of a flat surface so the letters could turned out warped. I'm gonna have to get painter's tape and shiz to cover the rest of it up though.

Damn sorry guys, Couldn't get my calipers painted today because the lifts were being used all day so i couldn't paint them. Instead to make up for that I raced my cousin in his scion tc. See thread in racing section. Got video of it. Will post it as soon as I get it from my cousin and figure out how to post on here.

2.25" mandrel bent aluminum piping with a Magnaflow from flex pipe back, cd player, 2K GTS wheels, hopefully tinting soon. Maybe lambo doors if the project goes through.

i got 205/50/16s on them. It gives it the "SUV" look when you look at it from certain angles. Other than that it looks SWEET. Trust me. Moving from the stock steelies to the gts wheels changes the whole attitude of the car. You'll notice a huge difference in handling, acceleration, etc. They fit fine but there's one problem: lugnuts. They cost a crapload of money from the dealer but i got hooked up so it wasn't so bad.

keep em polished with Mother's Aluminum and Metal Polish. That stuff works magic man. btw brake dust makes them look ugly. The ride feels a bit stiffer too. Like you could feel every bump or unevenness on the road.

hey thx bloodred. what kind of lugnuts did uget? any specific? because i dont wnna get these rims jacked. also what brand tires do you have or recommend for a decent price im hoping for 300 or under for all four. i saw some kuhmo ecstas 711 on discount tire i think and they're 59.99 i think, do you know if these are good?

i heard kumho ecsta supras were really nice. I got yokohamas on mine right now because they came with the wheels. Traction is ok just as long as they don't get wet. Have no idea on the kumho ecstas 711.

The lugnuts were the 7th gen celica capped lugnuts. I bought 4 sets of 4 and a toyota wheel lock set from north hollywood toyota dealer. My uncle got hooked up on the price so it was $64 instead of $150. But it's worth it. After market lug nuts only have about 3 rotation threads. The toyota lug nuts i got have 11 rotation threads plus they're chrome and shiny. Don't want your wheel to pop out when you go over a pot hole.

Ok so i painted them yesterday and i'm just letting it sit at the shop for the night until i put everything back on. I put the driver's side together so you would get how it came out.

here's the drums painted

[Linked Image from fototime.com]

here's the drums with the wheel on.

[Linked Image from fototime.com]

it's a little blurry but you can see i missed a spot when i took the picture. I already went back and covered the celica emblem and painted black on the spot i missed.

[Linked Image from fototime.com]

here's the caliper with the wheel on, kinda blurry again because the cam was on slow shot rolleyes.

First i sanded down everything with of course a mask and gloves on because of the brake dust *remember safety first grin* then i sprayed them down with Brake Leen brake cleaner. Kinda like Carb cleaner. It works magic, cut right through the rust so i can see metal again!!! eek Then i took the drums off and painted those first, let them dry for 15 min, sprayed another coat, let them dry and sprayed another coat and let it sit out to dry for about an hour and a half.

I removed the brake calipers just because i didn't want to get paint on the rotor or have it spray onto the body. So i coated that 3 times in black, then got the template (which was made out of decal sticker material and melted thumbsdown, you should get a cardboard material template) and sprayed on a coat. with the black on the caliper covered.

It took up a day of my life but hey, it looks a hell of a lot better than rusted brake calipers and rushed drums.

wooot! eek bravo on the inovative design blood. that turned out really nice. post up more pics if you can. oh you said you sanded down everything, what grit did you use of sandpaper? and was it just to get everything cleaner or what? and is takin off the drums really easy? do they just slide off or are they attached to any lines or something? thx blood

yeah i sanded down everything. I think it was A4 or 4A grit paper??? Not sure about this it was just lying around in the shop so i decided to use it. It was to get the first layer of rust off. If you paint over the rust and stuff your job isn't gonna last frown even with multiple coats. So you gotta get that layer of crap off before you spray. just sand it down till when you feel your drums or calipers it's smooth and doesn't have bumps on it. Drum brakes you need to have a rubber hammer to get it off. it doesn't just slide right off (thank God, or else a lot of people would be toast). You have to hit the drum brake right above where the lug nuts were pretty hard so the other side will pop out, then it's just yanking it off from there. Make sure yo uuse a mask man. You know how drum brakes use that stuff that gives you cancer espestus(sp? confused). Use a mask and some safety goggles too. The stuff flies around like no tomorrow. My white shirt was a orange clay-ish color by the time i finished. Good luck with this project but most of all have fun doing it because you are just making something you cherish a lot more cherishable thumbsup

wow wyte that looks like you kind of over sprayed a bit there... some red paint on your rotors tongue. I dunno why but i just don't like how your car looks... i think it's because of the graphics and the fact that the carbon fiber piece is painted white which kind of takes away the signature essence of the 5th gen. Just my 2 cents. I have extra pictures of my car but haven't been able to get around to re-sizing them and posting them up. Maybe i'll do it later today.

i know i oversprayed i didnt take the time to tape off anything, i just wanted to get it done i didnt have much time, and plus when i drive and press the brakes it will all scrape off the excess paint.

i dont like my graphics and im gona have em removed sometime soon.
