Iight probably , this a repost but i dunno, i just need some insight and help from people. Well anyways, the other day i cleaned my motor because it was a bit dirty but anyway after i cleaned it i got this sqeaky annoying sound coming from the belt of my engine. And oh man i can tell you its really annoying especially when im crusing. And my car sounds like a POS. But you see it did not make this sqeaky noise before i cleaned so obviously it was the engine cleaner I used. I used "GUNK" engine cleaner btw and hosed it off with water. Anways, my friends seen and heard the problem and they tell me its the "timing belt" but i dont see why it could be the timing belt because the car has 45,000 miles on it and the timing belt should not go bad it? If this car has a timing belt btw... But I am pretty sure its the motor belt for the car or whatever its suppose to be called. So my question is that if needed to take this Toyota to get this problem fixed, and my car is under the 100,000 mile warrenty and I am pretty sure it would be cause it has to do with the power train and the belts i guess. And another question is that if i were to take this in to a toyota dealer do I have to go to the same dealership from where i bought the car from to get it fixed or can i take it to any toyota dealer thats closer to me to fix it? Please help me people confused i mean if i can fix it myself and its simple i mean i will fix it but ifs not worth fixing and better taking it to the dealer and getting a new belt ?? What would you guys do? Any help? any suggestions? confused confused

Its not the timing belt. Spray the serpentine belt with belt dressing & that should fix it up.

It has a timing chain, not a belt. If it slipped you'd know it cause your motor would be done.

Rather than just masking the problem, maybe they should try to fix it.

All the belt dressing is going to do is get all over the inside of your engine bay and make a mess.

If you can't replace the belt on your own, or don't want to, have toyota replace it with the new Felt-like material backed serpentine belt.

If you can replace it yourself, get a Goodyear gatorback belt and install that.

Both of those options will get rid of the sound, rather than just mask it with dressing.

I know what it does, and it's not going to fix the problem, it's only a temporary fix.

Do a search on this topic, and that is what you will find. It's been discussed many times, and the final consensus is that in order to SOLVE the problem, you have to replace the belt.

The squeaking sound is a sign that the belt is either too warm, or too loose. If the sound happens when the car is cold, then it's obviously loose.

Rather than just mask a potentionally dangerous problem (having your car break down) with belt dressing, be smart and fix the problem.

Don't call me a moron, I'm not the one telling people to mask a potentially HUGE problem. rolleyes

When did I start something with you in this thread?

All I said, was that the belt dressing won't cure the problem, only mask it. Which is a fact anyone will agree with me on.

Rookie, the two options are the dressing or replacement of the belt.

The dressing will work, but the squeak will come back, it's just quick fix.

The new Toyota felt-like backed belt, or a Gatorback belt will solve it permanently.

I don't you have enough miles for the belt to be bad. You may have got some oil or grease on it. Check it over carefully for wear or cracks. Try cleaning it with belt dressing. If its worn bad, replace it.

Sorry Rookie, i wish i could help - but i have no experience in that department.
the only thing i could suggest is flipping through the pages of the Shop/Repair manuals at...

...atleast until you have a professional actually look at your car happywink

By masking, I mean it will cover up the squeak, but not fix it.

The cause of the squeak is one of four things:

A loose belt (worn)
A warm belt (too hot)
A broken belt tensioner
Any combination of the above.

In order to fix it, the dressing will lubricate and coat the pulley and belt, making the sound go away. That will not fix the looseness or warmness of the belt. It will also not fix a broken tensioner.

Replacing the belt will fix the problem, unless it's the tensioner. In that case, you'd need to get Toyota to fix it.

As for the low mileage, it doesn't really matter whether you have 1,000,000 miles or 1, belts can be faulty, break down, get damaged, etc.

If you got cleaner on it, it might have started to break it down. Salt from the road in the winter does this too, as does extreme levels of hot and cold.

If you are unsure what to do, the dressing is the cheapest and easiest route to go, however it will never fix the problem. My suggestion, would be to see about getting the belt replaced by Toyota, yourself, or someone else who can do it. If Toyota does it, make sure you ask for the felt material belt, if you do it at a shop or with a friend, get a Gatorback belt.

If it's the tensoiner, then that is covered under the 36K/3yr warranty. If you are over that, then you are on your own to get it replaced.

Hey Rookie, I am experiencing the same exact problem. Does the noise get louder if you step on the gas? Put the car on neutral and then rev it with your doors open, does it get louder as you step on the gas??? This is what mine is doing. At first it was not that bad, but man, lately it is freaking louder. I am getting it checked this Thursday. I want to take it in Tuesday but my g/f needs to service her car...

But yeah, let me know what it sounds like because it seems like we both have the same type of problem.
