I just got my headers yesterday and i was reading the instructions and it says that they are only for vehicles that don't have (non-EGR). EGR??? i called the DC Sports and they told me it won't work on my car because my car has EGR.
So do you guys know anything about this, because these headers are the only ones that are available from DC.
Any help would be appreciated Thanx.

"The EGR valve is the main emissions control component in the exhaust gas recirculation system. The valve is located on the Intake manifold, and opens a small passageway between the exhaust and Intake manifold to allow a metered amount of exhaust to flow back into the engine. This reduces combustion temperatures and helps control the formation of oxides of nitrogen. The EGR valve is opened by the application of vacuum to its control diaphragm. Some also require a certain amount of exhaust back pressure before they'll open. On newer vehicles, the valve is electronic and uses one or more solenoids or a small stepper motor. The valve should remain closed while the engine is cold and at idle. It should only open once the engine has warmed up and is running at part-throttle. If the valve sticks shut (or is disconnected), NOX emissions will soar and detonation will often result (See Detonation and Spark Knock). If it sticks in the open position or fails to close all the way, it acts like a vacuum leak resulting in a rough idle, hesitation and possible stalling."

I'm thinking the DC Sports person you talked to doesn't know Jack about his own product. Lucky tested the DC Sports header for the GTS and got 10.3 peak whp.

I think they are actually refering to the setup on the 2004 gts where it has an extra sensor or somthing that would make it not possible to use this header. they mentioned that cause they are thinkin about releasing a new header for that version also. could be total BS dunno. never looked into it. I just know thats what they told me. thumbsup

dude, as long as ur headers are for a 00- celica gts, it will work fine. why would they release headers that dont work? wut took them so long in the beginning to make them?
answer: install it if ur car is 00-02.

i was just told by toyota that 2000-2002 don't have an EGR and 2003-2004 do so i guess if you have a 2003 and 2004 it won't work i guess DC will come out with the header that will work with the EGR.

Let's solve the mystery of the GTS DC Header, folks.

Ok here is a summary of information so far:
On the DC Sports website: they say the header with part number THC4403 works for 00-03.
Someone called "Toyota" and spoke to some unspecified person who said the 00-02 GTS don't have EGR, while the 03 and 04 GTS do have EGR.
Some ecelica members are suggesting that all of the 7th Gens have EGR.
One ecelica member has brought up the possibility that the 04 GTS has a special sensor/outlet for EGR.
One ecelica member asserts EGR is for auto only.
One ecelica member asserts EGR is for stick and auto.

----------------------------------------------------------
Ok, here is my best attempt to logically approach the evidence:

So we have two main possibilities IMO.
Either DC Sports is right, and the Toyota guy talked to was wrong.
Or DC Sports does not know everything about all the years of the GTS, and made a mistake on their website by posting 00-03 when they should have posted 00-02.

These conclusions are not helpful:
It could be true that EGR is on all 7th gens.
It could be true that EGR is only on some years.
It could be true that some years have a special sensor/outlet on the header.
It could be true EGR has nothing to do with transmission, or it could have something to do with transmission.

Although it would be satisfying to one's curiosity to know what EGR applies to, the main deciding factor in functionality to be resolved:
Which years or transmissions in particular have that sensor on the stock header.

So...
If there is a special sensor/outlet on your stock header, chances are the DC Sports GTS header won't work for you.
If there is NOT a special sensor/outlet on your stock header, chances are the DC Sports GTS header WILL work for you.

Yay, hey that's simple. thumbsup

Once we hear from at least one person from each year/transmission on whether they have that special sensor/outlet on their stock header, we can conclusively tell someone if the THC4403 header will work for them. Once we have all data (in a 5x2 matrix), we may be able to conclude that transmission is irrelevant.

Let's start posting guys...

yep, that's right bmw52786. That's all you need to know. You could try looking for a sensor or outlet on the stock header or anything that is different than the plain DC Sports header...anything to suggest that they are fundamentally different in components (we already know the design is different of course). It might be hard to see your whole header b/c of the heat shield etc.

Let's see if deductive reasoning will help us:

We're talking about THC4403 so we will assume for this discussion that everyone has a GTS.
Ok, we know Lucky installed the header and tested it on his car, so it must work on his car duh. He has an 00 Stick.

To start with:

----Stick Auto
00 Yes
01
02
03
04

There is overlap between the DC Sports statement and the Toyota statement (00-03, 00-02), so we can assume that 00-02 is ok for stick since Lucky tested fine with his 00 stick, and we know the stock header didn't change from 00-02.

So now we have:

----Stick Auto
00 Yes
01 Yes
02 Yes
03
04

That's as far as we can go for now till we get more information from people on their header or what their stock header looks like. If one person says Auto in any of the years 00,01,02 works, then all the Autos in 00-02 will be Yes. If one says No, they will all be No for those years.

using the previous logic, we now have:

----Stick Auto
00 YES YES
01 YES YES
02 YES YES
03
04

Now, if 03 Stick is YES, then 03 Auto is probably YES given DC Sports' generic statement that it will work for 00-03. This is not necessarily true as Toyota MAY have changed the Auto ONLY for 03, but the most likely scenario is that if DC Sports got it right for the 03 Stick, then they got it right for the 03 Auto. If DC Sports didn't get it right for the 03 Stick, then they probably DID NOT get it right for the 03 Auto. Also in years 00-02, we have concluded that what Toyota would do on the Stick's stock header they would do the same for the Auto's stock header. The most likely probability is that this sameness of the header between transmissions carries over to 03 and 04 as well.

So...

----Stick Auto
00 YES YES
01 YES YES
02 YES YES
03 ?x? ?x?
04 ?y? ?y?

The x's being the same is a more likely scenario than the y's being the same. However, both scenarios are likely.

If it turns out from reported data that the 03 Stick is different from the 03 Auto, or the 04 Stick is different from the 04 Auto, then we have to completely dump the above assumptions, and would have to rely soley on reported data from then on.

I had to put the ?'s in otherwise the spacing would not be right, and it also makes sense to use ?'s since the x's and y's aren't guaranteed but highly-probable scenarios.

We need an 03, and an 04 person to tell us if their stock header has a sensor somewhere on it.

Let's hear the 03 and 04 people speak up now. wave

uh,...wow. I thought all cars, domestic, and imported, have had EGR's since the early 70's? Maybe not, but I know on V8"s in the 70's it was merely a hose and valve that went between the valve cover gasket and the air cleaner and the exhaust manifold. If I had to bet I would say all our Celicas have EGR's, but like I said, not sure. QTRMILER's reasoning seems sound to me though!
