HOLY F*@k me...Airbag injury...must read...

I work at a law firm, and Just got a report back from an accident investigation about one of my clients. She was involved at a head on at 80 MPH!! The report said that when the airbag deployed, it came out at her at 280 MPH!!! eek eek...it broke 4 of her ribs, and her nose, and left bruises on her arms...and that's just the beginning...I had no idea that an airbag came out that damn fast!! it did save her life, and I konw that airbags can hurt you, but Juheezus...280 MPH!!!! that's insane...be caruful when you drive...she was in a corolla, and the built in crumple zone around the engine, saved the engine from coming through the firewall and into her chest...just yikes!!!!

Yup, airbags do come out that fast. I was in a minor accident (15 mph) and my airbag deployed and it caused me more damage than it would have saved.

but had I been going 25 miles and hour faster.. it probably saved me a concusion or worse,

airbags are no joke. don't rip them out to install sport steering wheels, in dash screens, etc etc. Get them replaced if they deploy and insurance pays for it. Always wear your seatbelt.

I'd feel like a real ass if I had to say I told you so at your funeral (not that I'd be invited)

Yup, airbags have to deplay in a very fast time, something like 0.01 second.

Airbags will save your life even though it probably does hurt, plus they are packed with a chemical to keep them from sticking upon inflation. People have gotten burned from it that I've heard.

On top of that, it also depends on how close you are sitting to the steering wheel when it goes off. I bet she was sitting pretty damn close.

Glad she's alive though. grin

yeah i was in my friends car and the airbag hit me in the face, i was stunned and then all this clear fluid came out of my mouth and nose. Hit the sinouses then i was stumbling around for a couple of seconds.

Then my left knee got messed up, couldn't drive or walk for a month.

yeah, from what I've heard more women tend to get their ribs broken from air bags than men. It's about how much muscle mass do you have in front of your ribs. Muscle is better than big boobies too. grin

They burn you because there is an explosive charge inside to deploy them, Also they are packed in a powder (like talcum powder) and upon deployment that shit goes everywhere very fast. I've also seen where the bag has rubbed the inner forearm of the accident victim and it friction burned them something fierce. But I'd take that over the alternative any day.

The second gen airbags in the newer celi's have a controlled deployment. If you hit something at 30mph, they deploy at less force than if you hit it at 80mph.

The deceleration of your vehicle when it hits something is extreemely fast & the airbag must get out and fully deploy before you start coming forward. Otherwise you hit the wheel and then it deploys which would probably cause death. People have been decapitated by airbags.

Incidently the second gen seatbelts in a Celi are also a big saver. The prevent colar bone breakage & seat belt snapping. They are like a crumple zone for your body.

Make no mistake Toyotas crash test awesome. Wait till you get into the dash & check out that big steel tube running through for strength. It keeps the motor from coming throught the firewall and strengthens the car for side impacts. Good stuff.

w00t boobs, but in any case, if seated properly an airbag helps anyday. You're supposed to be like 10-12 inches away from them so that they have room to expand, not punch you in the face at 280mph.

if it weren't for that air bag, she'd be 6 feet under. She should be writing a letter to the car manufacturer thanking them for providing a product that saved her life.

airbag is nothing to mess with. my bro got in an accident and he said the airbag was the "biggest punch" hes ever gotten on his face. airbag is not a pillow, it scratches ur face, and he powder on it burns ur face. his face was swollen for a while, had to go to doctor after police report to get medication and so so... my mom (driver) didnt have nothing on her face while my brother (passanger) fucked his face up. he said ur ears just buzz from the explosion noise.

i learned this back wen i had drivers ED, and my teacher also told me that cars with airbags have something like rocket fuel or something that makes this go out so fast, but yeah, i also read somewere that most airbags dont deploy at the accident, and wen the firefighters come and try to rescue the person, it blows up knocking out the fireman, i heard a lot of cases like this and about firefighters complaining about this, looked kinda funny wen the firefighter got knocked out but worent wanna be him

The thing is over here in europe every car has an airbag.. I mean every.. it's not even allowed to have a car without one or remove you're are bag since it won't be street legal anymnore.. only old cars wich didn't have it yet are allowed on the road still but no car that originallly came with an airbag will be allowed on the road without.. even if you have you're damn expensive sparco seats with damn expensive sparco 5 point racing seat belts.. no way you're allowed to drive without em..

Airbag burns.. happ to me.. all over my face.. ouchie. and clos, thats just an old wives tale from when airbags were first put into cars. They work VERY well now, and that tale is just propogated by people who want to believe that airbags kill; and that they dont have to wear their seat belt, etc etc

the airbag must be pretty fast since its faster than the force of the impact

The guys that installed my stereo said that they could do this. That if you go to pull out the headunit BOOM! The theif would be lucky if they didnt die from the airbag considering they would be right up against it.

Not to mention manslaughter charges you would face. That's dumb, buy insurance & keep the car in a garage. Or better yet, buy one to begin with.

manslaughter? i would have said that the thief prolly pulled/tampered with a wire that triggered the airbag...heheheh

silly robber, you have to die now OWN3D!!! rofl
(first off, the robber deserves any result after being hit from the airbag. even if it includes death. and how can you be charged with manslaughter? the dude was robbing you by ripping off your head-unit, he could have tripped some wires.)

You can't charged with manslaughter by setting your alarm like that- the theif can sue you tho for saying your car was not kept in proper maintenance.. he might even win.

But then you have to deal with the cost of replacing airbags...

If you can be charged for murder for deliberately setting a gun to go off if someone breaks into your front door at home, then why can't you be charged for "murder" for setting a similar trap in your car? No one's done it yet, but the prosecuting attorney will bring up the legal precedents involving firearms.

Just get a pager alarm to tell you if your car is being broken into. The best radio frequecy ones today use Spread Spectrum technology like the Compustar SS and have a 1.25 mile range. Or you can get a Viper GPS system that will call your cell phone, and that range is as good as anyplace where you can get a reception. Simply call the cops, and send the guy to jail. No need to kill people over a car stereo.

I get my kicks on EC.
