I just bought a Injen RD CAI...and it sposed to come in the mail soon...will that fix some of my problem or am i just SOL'ed with a automatic...or am i able to get a Manual Conversion?!! sorrry guys for how long this is...but im starting to get upself with my little celica...and i do anything to fix her and not sell her...

i think some people had this proble and it was their MAF either needed cleaning or replaced so try cleaning it or wait until you install the new CAI and do it all at once

You're hitting the gas too hard, slamming on the gas after a stop doesn't help the car go any faster- it makes the car sit and pause for a couple seconds. Gently, but quickly, push down the throttle evenly.

^^^ Werd, I agree. Also try turning off your OD (over drive) untill around 60mph. That helped a lot in my old 2000 auto.

.. You won't go into OD until you're in 4th gear or so.

you are not crazy your automatic is slow. I should know i'm in the same situation. we have 4 speed trannies, that mean each of our gears are taller making acceleration slower than that of a 5 speed manual tranny (also has the ability to do a neutral drop) i have exhausted every logical option to make the auto faster and i have come to realize that it no use. IT WILL STILL BE AN AUTO GT.

that RD CAI from injen will only help top end...you will bog from the start as dynos have proven injen is not reputable for low-end power...

17 inchers aren't that bad, it's a nice trade off for low end and high end acceleration

The INJEN cai won't hurt your low end power, but as ct points out it won't help it- the colder air makes it around the same. Your higher end will be better

The GT auto has a nasty dead start from the line. It costs you a second or two over stick in the quarter. I think I if you ran the quarter, you'd be about 18 seconds.

However, once you are rolling it has perfect shift points that are actually quite nice for the highway. Its passing times are very respectable and top end is excellent for cars in its price range. The gas mileage is also very good.
If you manually shift it and actually allow it to redline or over, you will pick up some speed but not a whole lot. The auto shifts about 600 before red, so it saves your engine from the higher revs which adds to the life of the car.

Unless you street race, the auto is a good tranny.

Remember, this isn't a race car. I have an auto too. The same thing happened with my Lexus ES300 automatic. Also, you might want to have your throttle cable tightened. That could be why your accel isn't as firm. I also found while driving, when you get your revs up to 6 or the tach starts slowing down while accelerating, let go of the gas for a second and then accelerate again. You get a boost of power and I don't know why, it just works. Its like helping the car go. thumbsup
