well the installer is smart and dumb at the same time, the thing he did with the wiring is called bridging and it gives you more power by merging the two channels into one giving you about twice the power but Xplod amps are already bridge in the newer models, so he shouldnt do that because its causing more resistance because two wires are tryin to drain juice frome pipeline now which in turn makes your subs weaker. The amp turning off is probably the safety feature it has from overheating or shorts. check to make sure its gettin open air too cool off. Xplods are not the best but me and my cousin made these pretty loud except they lack potential on the low end frequencies.

if you have any more questions go ahead and ask, and if you can post pic of the amp and subs so i can know which ones you have

where did he mount the woofer?
it sounds like it could be overheating.

but as for the loudness thing, you may want to go through your deck and tweak the subwoofer settings to your liking. i know some installers don't set the bass very high when they do the install.

^^ the amp is okay but probably will not be enough for what you want
and yeah the gauge wire is a problem, you need a 4 gauge because of the resistance from the distance of the battery to the amp

if you want to keep goin with Sony, which i wouldnt suggest for the long run, get the P5 Amp
