If someone thinks they can help me, please take the time to read this. Thanks in advance.
When I got my car, it had an alarm on it that I was told wasn't working right. No big deal, I could just replace it. But I put it off (didn't want to spend the money) for a while.
Now, for about a month, the car has been doing all kinds of weird things. Sometimes when I start the car, the alarm goes off. Some times the foglights stay on whether you turn the knob all the way forward or not, rather than just the day-time running lights.
The biggest problem of all is that sometimes when I turn the car off and have the key in hand, the cd player, radar detector, clock, etc. all stay on, and the mustic still plays. I can take care of this by detaching the face on my deck and turning off the radar obviously. But the amp and clock stay on. However, it always holds a good charge, even if the car is left like that for 9 hours, which it is 5 days a week.
One day the car wouldn't start, and I jumped it. After that I didn't have the problem for about two weeks. Then I installed my amp. The car was turned off and when I plugged in the power wire into the amp the cd player and all of the other stuff came on. So I had that problem for about a week. Then I installed my new tail lights, and the car stopped doing it. Last night my sub stopped hitting (its blown) so when I disconnected the amp the car started doing it again. I changed out the fuse holder under the Hood
, and it stopped doing it.
It seems like every time I touch anything electrical in my car anywhere, it either starts or stops doing this to me. Its a real pain in the ass. Now my power switch for the door locks will only lock or unlock the doors when the car is not started. If the car is running, the switch is just dead.
I was told by a guy I know that my alarm was bad and was causing all of these electrical problems. I went to a place in town yesterday to see about an alarm and I had one priced out and was setting up an appointment for Wednesday to be installed. I told them what all the problems I was having and the guy went to the back to talk to the "head installer" and he decides he doesn't want to touch it because it could be very difficult to pinpoint what is wrong with it. He also said that no one in town will want to touch it.
Well, last night I find the black box where all of the wires are attached to the alarm. Why is this so complicated? Can't the people installing a new alarm just cut that out. That way, even though the wires are tied in to the headlights, taillights, windows, door locks, and whatever else, they'd be useless if they're not hooked into the main unit of the alarm.
I don't get it. Does anyone know what I can do? I didn't want to just start cutting wires and yanking out fuses because I don't know enough about what I'm doing and I'm afraid I would mess something up even worse.
