Hey gang, I'm going to show my ignorance of mechanical things here, but a friend of mine told me that to help out my Auto GTS off the line, I should get a new torque converter. This should raise the auto stall speed to about 3500 rpms. If we could launch at 3500 RPMS we wouldn't be NEAR as slow. Any ideas how to do this or if this is feasible?

Even in manual mode and/or with overdrive off the auto will only launch at around 1500 to 2000 rpm's doing a "brake stand". Its a real crawl till about 15-20 mph.

That's why you should buy a stick smile

If you don't know how, it's not hard to learn.

My sister picked it up in an afternoon

it would be possible if there is a company that makes a converter with a higher stall speed, but i don't think anyone makes one for our cars

*grin* I learned on a stick. Didn't drive an auto for several years later. I was thinking of driving in traffic, not pure speed when I purchased though wink
There are plusses and minuses to both. And it IS feasible to swap an auto to a manual in the celica, it just costs about 2.5k - 3k dollars. I don't think that's worth it considering that I spent extra on the auto to begin with (as a wise person once pointed out). So if I could make the auto not so sluggish off the line, it would be "good enough" smile
