So I have a question! My sunroof is all scratched up cryand it didn't take me long to realize that it is PLASTIC?! Who the heck decided to do that? angry
No really, is there a reason for this and can I have it replaced with glass.
Every other Celica I have seen since has the plastic too, is it factory? confused

Thanks for your help, it is really starting to bug me! rice

2003 & newer models are glass now, if you do change it to glass you will have to change the moon roofs motor since the glass is heavier and you need the new motor in the newer models to open the heavier glass wink

I'm going to scrape it all off and put new tint on it.

Tint does stick to it, if you spray it with adhesive, I tried rofl

According to this link:

"In terms of environmental protection efforts, this product is 30-40% lighter than a comparable product made with inorganic glass, contributing to vehicle weight reduction and energy conservation."

The shop I took it to for my Greddy looked at it for me and siad that they couldn't get it off. How are you going to scrape it off? are you using chemicals or something? How will you do it without scraping into the plastic?

My thoughts exactly. I wonder what the difference is exactly but I can't imagine it being that much! No wonder they went to the glass with the newer models!

Now I am pissed! I called my dealership parts department to price out for a motor and glass. Motor $455.00 Glass $694.00! angry but what is actually making me mad is that when I asked how much to just replace the Lexan plastic, he said it if is from Toyota it is glass. No way, I bought the car from them new and the sticker in the window included the sunroof as factory! My salesman is a friend so I think I will call him and ask him to find out for me. The parts guy said that Toyota didn't make them in plastic. Rude! I think he didn't know what he was talking about and thought I was a stupid girl! thumbsdown

My 2000 GT's sunroof is peeling badly. My 2000 GTS's sunroof is starting to peel.

How sucky is that. I wonder if I can just have it cleaned and left clear, no tint or anything.
