I've been seriously considering converting my rear drum brakes to disc brakes. Here is a list of parts I was given by a nice guy (Don) at Burien Toyota. This will convert my drums to OEM GTS discs.

47730-20630 - Rear Caliper
47750-20620 - Rear Caliper
04466-20090 - Rear Brake Pad Kit
04946-20020 - Rear Shim Kit
04948-20010 - Rear Fitting Kit
42431-20420 - Rear Disk (x2)
42431-20420 - Parking Cable Assembly
46430-20580 - Parking Cable Assembly
46503-20070 - Plate S/A, Parking
46504-20070 - Plate S/A, Parking
90947-02A37 - Flexible Hose (x2)
90401-10058 - Bolt, Union (x2)
47389-50020 - Gasket, Flexible (x2)
90468-08040 - Clip (x2)

I don't know if anyone else has considered this conversion. This is the information I've gathered thus far. Anyone close with a parts guy that could "hook a brotha up"?

People have considered it. I don't know if anyone on here has successfully completed it.

Yeah, it's been done. The TRD Supercharged Celica has had it done. I'm not ready to complete the task yet. I'm weighing cost/benefit ratio to see if it's worth the $$ ($1100 quoted price). Then again, I could just go with the SSBC brakes ($700), but I haven't heard too many good things from them. If I go with them, my rear brakes will be 1.4 inches lager in diameter than the front brakes. That might look kind of funny.

I'm thinking of looking for a wrecked GTS in the area salvage yards where I can get these parts for cheap, as long as I yank them off myself. At least now I know what I need to take.

Unless you are doing some sort of driving I can't even imagine... it's not worth $1100.

people have done it on here before. I heard that it wasnt worth it. There is no real gain that it is just for show.

this is the way to go imo if you want rear discs that match the front on a GT... it'll be expensive though and as Spyder mentioned, it's mainly a cosmetic mod that provides minimal braking advantages over the drums since the rears only supply 20% of the total stopping power anyway.

- If you have the cash and really want this done then get some 18's with a Rotora or Stoptech big brake kit up front and the SSBC conversion in the rear. That'll be tight - thumbsup

personally, I was thinking about the rear conversion as well but decided against it for the reasons provided above. I'm getting larger cross-drilled rotors up front and stainless steel brake lines all around. Then come the 18" rims to show them off - eek
