Okay, this is the last time I'm gonna say this...

There is no such thing as a "Lift Bolt". any mechanic will look at you funny if you say to them, "I need my lift bolts replaced". Most mechanics will probably start looking at your suspension or something.

The items you need replaced are called "rocker shaft set bolts". They are there to keep the rocker shafts set in their proper position.

It's mostly called a "Lift Bolt" around the forums, because that's what the enthusiasts started calling them; it's easier to type all the time than, "rocker shaft set bolts".

If you take it in to the dealership, or any mechanic, you should tell them you need your rocker shaft set bolts checked for wear or seperation. Refer to Toyota Engine TSB EG010-03 (dated May 19th. 2003) for the procedure, read up on what needs to be done, that way, you can point them in the right direction. Lots of toyota techs are inexperienced with the 2ZZ, but are more than skilled enough to service it, same goes for any shop; if they give you too much grief, go to a private shop and have them look at it. it's a simple fix, and any half-decent shop should be able to take care of it for you.

BTW, I didn't want to hunt for a link to the TSB, but I decided to post the Rocker Shaft Set Bolt TSB and repair procedure (in .PDF format) on my online server. it's 442KB in size, and will only be up for a limited time, so I suggest you download it while you can.

You can get it from the link below:
