I have a 2003 Celica GT that I purchased brand new and I've always had a bit of a problem with the transmission. At first I thought it was that I wasn't yet used to my new car but I still am having problems when shifting from 1st to 2nd gear. It's always never been easy to get a smooth shift from 1st to 2nd gear on my new Celica. I've checked in the manual to see the suggested shifting speeds and it's seemed to help a little. With the suggested shift being close to 24K/h which ends up being just before you hit 3,000 rpm on the tac. I've tried a bit lower and it seems smoother but it's still just not right I think. Could there be something wrong with the transmission straight from factory or is 1st to 2nd gear always a little rougher than all the other gears???

If I'm conserving gas I usually shit between 3000-4000.

I always shift between 3000 & 4000 as well. But no matter what rpm I shift for 1st to 2nd it's very difficult to get a smooth shift, always has been. I just don't know!

I doubt it's me cause I've been driving standard for a long time now. But it's not the actual shift, the stick goes into gear fine, it's when i let out the clutch it's really hard to get it smooth the higher the revs. Just clarifying.

It's just not smooth coming off the clutch. The only way I can do it perfectly smooth is to ride the clutch a tiny bit or to shift below 3000 rpm.

Mine shifts great from 1st to 2nd, no problems except when i try to put it in reverse. if i don't do it just right or have the pedal all the way down it doesn't shift all the way.
