Hello,

With buying a Used car, there are always the possibility that the car have somewhat been abused.

I am going to be purchasing a Used Celica pretty soon. So I want to just talk to you guys on how to keep the car in shape? What are things that I should do to basically, take care of the car? The basics and etc. For example, should I take the car in for service or something?

The used Celica will either be a 5 Speed GT or a 6 Speed GTS, depending on which deal falls into my lap. But it is either a used Celica or a new Civic, and I really do not want to go the Civic route.

Thanks,
Alex

Just do the routine maintanance, like oil change every 3k miles, rotate your tires every other oil change. Don't abuse the car until it breaks in, or don't abuse it at all.

Use common sence.

I did say no to the Civic. I was going to borrow $2000 from my Uncle and Aunt so that I can bypass paying the interest from some sort of a loan and they gave me a LONG ass speech about getting a new car like a Civic. I was telling them that I rather not get a Civic because then I will not appreciate the car. I used to drive a Celica, and I just want another Celica because I was not done with my 1st Celica, lol. And they kept on saying that I should keep my "dream" car away because I can always get that later when I get a better job and etc. But yeah, kind of BS IMO. So I will have to check around on where I can get a loan for $2000 and pay it off in a year.

As for the don't abuse comment, what do you mean by that? What is consider abuse?

he means abuse in terms of riding it hard... punching the throttle at every light, mis-shifting, etc

OO okay. I understand.

The Celica is pretty reliable, like sturdy or whatnot?

Wow, that is a lot of mileage.

Just that I was trying to win an argument with my Uncle who is a M Benz technician who is telling me to get a new Civic instead because of the warranty and whatnot. But that is BS because I will be spending the same amount if not more than a used GTS.

So it makes me feel better to know that the Celica is a good and reliable car. From what I experience with my 2000 GT, it was a good car.

I really want a Celica, but it sucks how my Family thinks that I am wasting my money, even after the whole crap that happened with my first Celica...

Just needed some sort of a support for the Celica.

after spending thousands of dollars, get the gts since you have the gt before. get something you havent experienced before. the price difference is a 1000$ only. as when you get it, you should have the general checkup to see if the car was driven hard or no. things that come to my mind are engine compression check, transmission and shifting, check the oil on both engine and tranny to see if its clean

Buy a Extended Warranty...I bought a 2000 GT with 58,000 miles...The Warranty cost me $1,300...The car was burning oil..Brought it back to the Dealer and they rebuilt the engineen...Cost to me $50 deductible..The dealer provided me with rental at no charge for 10 days...

ways to maintain: see below

if the calipers aren't painted, paint them...look for low miles...keep you engine bay clean...put an exhaust on there...try not to rev high...dont stress the engine to much...clean the car often and wash and wax (claybar maybe)...clean the interior and remove stains...

thats all i can think of, hope this helps thumbsup

Go for the GT, lower cost all around.

Plus, it won't have been over revved (at least, less likely than a GTS)

Just treat the car like a brand new one...
