sponsorship possibility?

i just thought i'll share with you this. one week ago i went to a car show that was hosted by 95.3 party( famous radio station in orlando fl). they had some companies that were offering you the possibility to be sponsored. all you had to do is fill out an application, thing that i did hoping to get lucky this time. today at work around 3.00 pm i rec'd a call from one of their rep, he presented himself and stated that they got two major companies that were interested in sponsoring me( the first one according to him was a major graphic company( international) that contributed in the making of the fast and furious and they were interested in sponsoring me fully. they will give me a 620.00$ voucher to buy whatever i want from their products and all i had to do is attend 5 car shows within a year and have one of their stickers in the rear window. the second company was a major audio company that was interested in sponsoring me partially. they will give me a voucher of 2500.00 and i will have to spend it on their products ( for example if i buy a deck for 100.00 i will have to pay 50.00 and they will apply the rest towards the voucher. of course all this time while he was talking to me he never mentioned the name of the companies that he was referring to. he advised me that he just needed to make sure that i was interested and that he had to confirm some information before he calls them back . after getting the info that he wanted( about my car, how many shows did i attend, what color car i have... by the way most of thiose question i already answered on the application that i had filled out at the show. which sounded weird at that time. he advised me that he will call them , and call me back in ten minutes with the confirmation. almost half an hour later he calls me and congratulates me. he stated that both of them are interested and that i was approved. all i had to do now is give him a credit card number so they can charge 79.00 $ to it. the application that i had filled out stated that once they find me a sponsor i will have to pay them that fee. i was still ok all i needed is the two companies phone number to check on that before i give him my card number. as soon as i asked him he became offensive and stated that he was never asked by anybody else that same question. he stated that he doesn't see the point of me getting their number if he already took care of everything. he went on to say that once they get the 79.00 i will have to wait two weeks then i will receive a correspondance from the two companies. i will need then to take pictiures of my can and send them back to them. then they will send me the contract plus the vouchers. i insisted that i understand that, but that i still will need to have some type of comfirmation before i give him may card info. he stated that he will go ahead and get that info and contact me back. he never contacted me back and also which sounded a littled bit fishy at the time i was talking to him is that if he was really legit he should have given the phone numbers right then for me to be able to verify his story.
funny hein. i just though i'll share with you. i know i want to be sponsoired really bad but not to the point of being stupid and ... spineyes

you made a good call - it's better to err on the side of caution... if he's legit he'll give you all the necessary info you ask for and would not be offended, knowing that you just want to make sure that he's not hiding anything...

You guys say this stuff about "80 bucks." It's not going to be $80. They are going to get the card number and buy parts for their cars, very simple.

yup that's right. and you know what he never called me again. also if he had given me the info and i had checked that everything was ok i wouldn't have given him my card number. that's something that i barely do unless i have the person in front of me. most of the time i either send money orders or write checks to have some type of tracking device and to avoid been screwed totally. 80.00 $ is nothing compared to messing up your credit and charging god knows what... smile
