i just got an auto 2001 GT(i know, that's a problem in itself rolleyes )with about 32,000 miles. the problem is that my acceleration at part throttle is much better than when i try to give it full throttle.

i saw another thread that mentioned lift bolts as possibly being the problem, but that was with a gts...
could faulty lift bolts still be my problem? or could it be something else?

thanks for any help.

i don't think that even with a GTS lift bolts would be the problem b/c lift doesn't kick in until 6200rpms. i thought that my car was this way too, but i think it's just a mental thing for me anyways, could be something wrong with your car though if you are sure about it confused

Intake mods?

Clean MAF sensor (never did it myself, but some people on this forum swear by it).

Check airfilter and clean/replace it.

Any abnormal sounds (like engine revving up but no decent acceleration)?

Check engine light on?

Are you really sure? grin

ok, kinda thought lift bolts weren't the problem, thanks for clearing that up.

but still, what would cause poor wide open throttle Performance?
with my pedal all the way to the floor there is barely any acceleration, but if i lift my foot off the pedal a little bit i get some of the Performance back.

yes, i'm sure tongue

as soon as i get my new Intake (it's been 2 weeks and counting from since i ordered from suprastore), those top three will be taken care of.

and the engine doesn't even rev high at WOT, just 3/4 throttle.

the celica actully is quicker if you ease into the throttle instead of just mashing on the gas (you get a flat spot)

Don't have that with my celica GT.

Slamming on the pedal is just as quick or even quicker than easing into the throttle.

You just answered your own question.

Even in my six speed GTS if I floor it around 3000, I don't really accelerate all too fast.

def. sounds like a MAF problem to me...i had a very similar problem awhile back and i had to take it in to get a new MAF. my problem, however, was significantly more severe. the car at partial throttle would jump and lurch and bog and...it was an ugly mess. if it's not lurching and stalling and stuff like that, then you probably just need to clean the MAF.

I have a gt and it does this too-when you smash the gas, it opens your throttle completely, bogging the engine down. It has to play catch up to itself. IF you do half throttle, it allows the engine to "be on top of things". Remember-a gt isn't a powerful as a gts, but it 's still a great car and no reason to down it. It has one up on a gts...it's able to have more boost because of better compression. thumbsup

Then there is something wrong with your GT. Because mine doesn't bog down when i floor it. It isn't supposed to do that.

yeah man for the celica I you have to shift through the gears to get going fast with my GTS, then i'd ride 5th gear to death to accelerate on someone, then hit the 6th.

For auto's IDK, try getting used to lifting your foot off the pedal to make it shift or drop it into D3 because you have to have the right gear for the right power, don't expect power to orgasm from the engine as soon as you floor it, work your car!
