OK. i've talking about getting rx-8 and trade my car in.
so i went to the dealer with everything ready. just hoping to drive home with new rx-8.

i love silver, so i picked the silver rx-8 with aero package. the stick price was 29,000. and they are willing to sell it for little above the invoice price. which was like 25,000 with tax and lic

But this is where it gets ugly.
remember the part, trading my celica in??
well guess that they are only offering me 10,000 for my 2001 celica gts with only 32,000 miles on it. what kind of BS is that!!??!! and the highest they can do is 12,000. even with all the parts i have on my celica, i only have Intake and exhaust, so the engine is fine. And they are trying to say that, its because my car was modified. "looks"

Man i got so pissed off and i didn't even care about rx-8. So i just walked out of the dealer. And said fuck you...

And i'm gonna keep my celica as long as it lives. And try to make it in to full blown race car, once i get a different car.
I'm pissed, but at same time i love my celica.!!

so i decided to spend the money on my celica. i've saved up more than enough. So i order many parts,
-Brashboy strut brace
-JDM side markers
-Hotchkis Sway bars
-Exhaust
i believe it or not, this only cost me 750 all together total. And yes brand new...straight from Japan

modified cars hold no more value on the market than the same car without them... unfortunately thats just the way it is, unless your car is exceptionally modded ie: Turbo, $5000 stereo with TV's & stuff. even then you'll never get your $$$'s back.

the mojority see mods as something that can stuff up more than something that enhances the vehicle.

bummer that your deal fell through... enjoy ya new mods thumbsup

damn jae, that sucks. where'd you go, Mazda of the Desert? you know damn well if you were to trade your car, they would sell it for more than 12,000.

hey at least you're getting new parts. thumbsup

that sucks. i pondered the thought of trading in for an rx-8. guess it wasn't meant to be. well, with a newer car you pay more monthly and insurance. and you still have all the tsb's to deal with and all the quirks of owning ANY car. just spend your money wisely (or not) and mod the hell outa your celi or if you want fast...get a crotch rocket. thumbsup

Keep the Celica. It is a very nice car. Also, if the Celly has already been paid off, then less bills which means less stress!!

That's what happens when you try to trade in your car...Mazda dealers get really low marks. Don't rely on your trade in.

sorry to say but that dealership gave you a good deal. it doesn't matter how many parts you invested on the car. the trade in value will always be lower than the retail value/private seller value. for 12K on a 25K car?? you were looking at around 250-300 a month on payments...on an RX-8...that's good...go back and apologise and get that RX-8!!!

The reason they dont give more trade in value on appearance mods is because it limits the selling market. If it was bone stock they could sell it to anybody but as it is now they have to target a younger buyer whos lookin for the modded look.

i know how you feel, tried to trade in on STI, putting mine all back to stock, they didnt even know it was modded cause i didnt have the car there. its an 02 with 11000 miles at the time, perfect condition and they offered me 13,000. i laughed and walked away.

hey jae, if this makes you feel any better...i almost trade-in my celica for a 03' lancer evo 8 last friday. that thing is fast! my 03' celica has 5292 miles on it. blue book value at $17750. the freaking dealer only wanted to pay $14000 for it. on the other hand, the bastard wants to sell a 03' evo with 128 miles on it for sticker + tax&tag, which will be $32000. i just told him to keep all 6 03' evos...

ok..lemmie get this straight...the guy offered 25K for a new Rx-8 and offered 12K for your car. so you'll only be financing 13K. so you passed up on an "8" when your monthly payments on the car was looking around 270-300 a month??? wow. tell you yhe truth i would kill to be in your spot. cry

I think the dealership gave you a pretty good deal. But at the same time, I don't blame you for keeping your car. I like the Celica better than the RX-8. I test drove one and was considering it but it didn't really appeal to me. thumbsup

^^ I agree you got a good deal. Sounds right on the money from everything I've read on celica value. Aftermarket parts are worth nothing. I would be driving an 8 right now.

the last time i checked on kellysbluebook, kbb.com
it gave me 18,000 for private and 16,000 from the dealer. so i would've been happy if it was around that area. But they wouldn't go any more beyond 12,000. 12k isn't that much for a car. i would rather keep the car if it only worth that much. not only that so far i paid 25,000 for my car and that's not even half of what i paid for.
and when i check the rx-8 forums, many people were getting their rx-8 for under 26,000. so the price i got was average.

what this mazda dealer is doing is, try to lure you in by giving you a nice decent price on the rx-8. at the same time, he needs to make a profit, so he'll give you less in trading value to balance out his loss in the new rx-8...
