Celica Forums General Discussion Exterior Leaky side view mirrors

I'm looking for help with fixing my side view mirrors. Everytime I wash my car, my side mirrors leak forever and when I get home the sides of my car have water mark streaks. I looked on the bottom of the mirror and it looks like the seal between the mirror and the body is cracked on both sides. Is this supposed to be like this? I went to a Toyata dealership they said that I would need to by the mirror to get a new seal. But the guy said something about using some time of silica. Does anyone have any suggestions, or heard of using silica or a brand name?

If you're talking about the small little hole that's kind of in the middle, then it's normal. You have to remember that the glass is not sealed or fixed to the mirror. The glass has to be able to move so you can adjust it. The hole is there to let any water that gets behind out or else you'll have water build up & mildu & crap will grow inside.

That's normal. If I was you I would worry more so on the headlights and the condensation problems. Every time I wash my car I get what your talking about. I just swipe it off with some spray wax and a clean micofibre and good as new in under 30 secs. both sides.

best tip = get some quick detailer and wipe it off a few hours later.

its all normal, sucks but just dry it whenever you see water

yeh, I'll just keep wiping it off. Just looks like shit when I'm driving out of the car wash and there's already water marks on it. Thanks

what I do is keep opening and closing the door until all the water comes out from the mirrors and door-handles. Then again driving tends to work better on the mirrors
