$169.95 bucks for a Transmission Flush! Rip Off! Yes? No?

so i'm here at the toyota dealership at Puente Hills, the new building they built, and i was just going in to get my oil changed, and replace the cabin Air Filter, and then he looks under my Hood, check my transmission fluid, says its really black and says i have to get it flushed. Am I getting ripped off or what? i'm doing this so i can be in peak top shape for the In n OUt celica meet in Chino Hills.

Automatic Transmission type T fluid flush $ 169.95+tax angry angry angry angry

thats about average from your toyo dealership... our celi requires type-t (the same stuff Toyota trucks & Lexus use)... its more durable than regular fluid

for a flush, they need to fill and drain your trans and then refill again

a flush uses twice the amount of just a single drain/fill

try asking the dear for the Price on the jugs of that TypeT fluid and you will be able to see how the math works out grin ... wave

How many miles are on the car/since last tranny filter change?

If the fluid has never been changed or it's been more than about 35-40K miles, I would just change the filter and fluid.

If the dealer is just flushing and vacuuming the fluid out through the dipstick port all the crap the has built up in your tranny will become loose and end up clogging your filter anyway.

For some folks, "Gaseous Cranial Explosions" are just a way of life!!

i am assuming you have an automatic...

Automatic Transaxle:
1ZZ-FE engine: Up to 2.9L
2ZZ-GE engine: Up to 4.0L

Automatic Transmission fluid 'Type T-IV'
Change Automatic Transmission fluid only as necessary <<<----

When changing the Automatic Transmission fluid, use only Toyota Genuine AFT Type T-IV (ATF JWS3309 or NWS6500) to aid in assuring optimum transaxle Performance.

[b]Notice: Using Automatic Transmission fluid other than Toyota Genuine AFT Type T-IV may cause deterioration in shift quality, locking up of your transmission accompanied by vibration, and ultimately damage the automatic transmission of your Celica.

i should probably check my transmission fluid. is a transmisson flush covered through the extended warranty at toyota dealerships? and would a manual transmission cost about the same? and em back when i had a ford a transmission flush ran about 90 bucks, so it seems kinda high to me, but then agian it is a dealership we are talkin about thumbsup

yikes too bad i didn't see this sooner, I just changed a friend of mine's at work (ghetto flushed it for about 15 bucks) which includes the 3.25 per quart of trans fluid.

ghetto flush=buying double the oil, draining and filling once, then driving the car for a few miles till it gets nice and hot then re-drain and refill fluid.

If you keep up on regular maintenence you dont need to ever flush it as you wont get deterioration and build up.

dealer flush's use a machine they hook up to your tranny which continuously pumps fluid through the transmission, in an effort to clean up all the grimey stuff from oil breakdown and build up..

I cant stand how much dealerships charge to change transaxle fluid. it litterally takes 1/2 hour to do. and costs about 7 bucks in toyota at fluid. never worth more than 40 bucks imho

When Toyota flushed my MT, yes I flushed a MT, the AT transmission flush was $100. Same thing they charged me minus some cash because I brought Redline MT 90. I know this for a fact from the service department manager who took my info. He said it was a special and regular it was around $120. $170 is a rip off and yes this is also way late. I guess I missed this before.

you got ripped for sure. I was only charged for about 50 bucks to do a tranmission change. Automatics would be more expensive of course but i dont think it's 169. That guy at the toyta dealership thought mine was an automatic and quoted me about 100? but yea, you got ripped.
