I painted my center console today. It turned out good. I painted it black. I was wondering if i should do anything after clear coat. I heard something about using wax or buffing. Anybdoy who has done this could you give some tips on the final step after the clear coat.

you might want to wet sand it...then see how smooth you get it, then maybe follow with paint again and clear coat (im not sure on the details after wet sanding)

wet sand with 0000 grade steel wool...if you have a decent amount of clear coat on there...it should take out the surface scratches. then you can use some rubbing compound and it will fix those scratches the steel wool leaves. then after about a month of letting the paint cure...you can wax it.

I already put it back in my car. Is that a bad thing? What kind of rubbing compound shouuld i use? I have 600grit sand paper. Is that going to work the same as wool?

600 is too abrasive. try 1500 or 2000 but you'll then have to buff it with a buffing compound and finishing polish

Would there happen to be any protective coating to prevent from it getting real dirty or finger prints.

Mine is black (click my profile), It does look hott but does get dirty very easy. I wax it to help keep it clean and protect it.
