I need advice on what brand & model to get. With or w/o navigation. Pioneer, Alpine, Clarion, Panasonic, etc.
And for those with this unit already, where did you put the "hide-away unit" (brain)? Thanks

I have the clarion 935vd and i love it... Definitely makes the car more fun to drive, atleast to me. I got the unit installed professionally was like 150, and they put it under my passenger seat.

Pioneer deck is awesome, but pioneer has some problems with reading DVD-R's, something about their drives. If you have stuff on DVD-R, you should get the alpine.

BTW, try before you buy; this can save you many headaches when it comes to media compatibility and other potential issues with the finished install.

Oh yea, the Alpine is cool too, you can't go wrong with Alpine, the build quality is second to none in my book. Sony also makes nice head units as well, so you may want to look into them as well.

Actually, there are lots of good manufacturers, you just need to compare your system's goals with the features on the various head units out there (That's why most places have the gear hooked up; you can try it hands-on.)

Well those are defenately nice smile awesome..
but well.. pc on your car is no the right explaination wink it is nothing like a pc anymore it's a fully programmed multimedia system just like Pioneer only with tons of more functions.. like direct downloading traffic information, mp3's and stuff like that.. can reed DVD RW's and even burn it smile and it's also very well hidden smile but sure you want a descent brand.. go for Pioneer.. those set's rock if they weren't that expensive I would have saved me the work smile and got one of those

with tvs i always think its best to go custom with built in tft screens...thats my opinion. Alot of people like the clean and easy install of a motorized one..they cost like 1200 for the pimp ones though..so i dunno...cheapest way is get a nice expensive tft screen(200 bux) and a jdm center console..and boom your set. MAkE SURE IS TFT..my screens claimed to be and they arent..so im kicking back with those until i replace then with good ones. but its not bad as long as the angle is right. inside the car you see everything...people outside just see a shining blur of a screen..but overal it all depends on how much $$ you wanna save and how you want your car to look.
