Need advise guys. My car (00' GTS) was already in the shop about 3 weeks ago from a mis-shift (valves were bent, water pump broke, lift bolts broke, etc.) just the other day i reved it up to 8.3rpms and the oil light came on and then the car just died. I called toyota this morning to tell them about the car and the guy tells me that they'll have a representative look at it to see whether it'll be covered or not. It told him the car was still under warranty, but he said it's up to toyota to make the decision so i'm like that's fine. He asked me if i reved the car high and i said yea on the highway. He said for goodness sake why? I said for goodness sake it's a frickin sports car that redlines at 8rpms, toyota markets the car as a sports car! Why do you guys think? Do i have a battle at my hands with toyota? Man they better not screw me over!

You shouldn't be revving that high so soon after having your engine fixed, regardless of the fact if it's your old engine, or a brand new one.

yeah, you have to let them brake in, and there is a proper way to do it. hopefully they will cover it. maybe you should leave out the abuse part and tell them it was just fixed and there should be no reason for the engine light to be coming on.

Not certain you meant this but with new cars (I'd assume that goes for new engines too) you can drive them hard and it seals something better and gives you some benefit.. I don't know the facts but I searched online when I got my Celica brand new and I found out some good stuff.

But it's suggest you have some open space alone and run each gear pretty hard and then slow down relatively quickly and do this periodically for the first what ever miles.

I think you are talking about using a thicker oil. Thicker oil, 10W or higher, will seal gaskets and leaks you may have within the engine.
