everyone has probably heard this type of thread before but I gotta get it off my mind and can someone answer a few questions? I don't know what to think. I had the last RWD celi then I gave it back to my sister. (it was a hand-me-down until I could my own car) I never had any problems with the 22re engine and drifting was cool on stock 14's! Well the thing that bothers me about the new celicas (even though I love my own) I feel like toyota has made a car and given up on it after slow sales. Toyota never lets their consumers know of their plans and MR2 and celica crowds have loss devotion and have gone elsewhere look at this site for example, I always see people sellin their celis for other cars. Also what is the deal with CART? WHat the hell was Toyota thinking when they cheated? My opinion the only recent toyota built sports car worth mention bears a Lexus badge. I think the celica is a great looking car and I wish they would put more effort in the future. I don't want to hate on my own car but I can't help but feel that I may have made a mistake. confused

It has crossed my mind a few times.. but now i'm just wondering if i want to get a GT stick or a GTS stick...over my auto in the future..

was thinking 350z.. but I'm now happy with this car..

the celica has massive cargo room !!! Looks are wonderful

but yea its not fast enough but getting a Turbocharger should be good enough..and insurance cheaper over the z..

Ive also thought about either changing mine to a six speed or just getting a different car such as a
1. Turbo or TT supra
2. Eclipse GSX
3. WRX
I think i will stop putting mods on my celica and wait another few years to put mods on one of those cars! But also about the Toyota thing and not telling us what to expect...i think they are purposly not telling us because it makes us wonder, is unpredictable, and is what makes us want to know really bad! Its like a movie, a good movie is one that is unpredictible. I think Toyota is trying to be very unpredictible for that reason. JMO

I'm getting a celi cause I love it.. I loved it for over 3 years smile But I also really like the 350Z and the Skyline but I can't simply afford em.. and I also prefer RWD or AWD over FWD but hey.. the Celi rox.. it's one of the nicest cars ever.. put a Turbo in and you can compete with any car you just run into.. I always think about it and I would love to. As of now, I can't afford a new car even w/a trade in or selling my GTS and a used car is out of the question. I don't mind my Celica. I could definitely live with it for 2 more years. It gets me around

yeah, it's an on going contemplation for me. i never thougt i'd be so interested in the import thing until i got my celi. then i came across all the typical problems (belt tensioner, engine bogging; dirty maf, iac valve; fluctuating idle, synchro difficulties; sometimes can't get into gear, peeling moonroof, lift bolts) and don't remind me of the lack of power. sure, it looks fast but it would take a lot to get into the levels many other cars can easily attain (we get no love from trd).

guess we'll have to wait and see if toyota embraces TRUE tuners and sports cars in the future (instead of the damn scions and hybrid cars).

I have heard and seen things on VW's. I use to have one, some of my friends do. I heard the debate on the 1.8 t, It's harder to increase HP at the cost of money and reliabilty, than the VR6. I don't know who is right. All I know is that I can extract more HP and TQ out of the 1.8 or VR6 VW than a Celica at a lower cost and more reliabilty. VW's are notorious for being reliable, safe, better interiors, and well made. I believe more so than 7th gen Celica's by far. Toyota missed the mark with the 7th gen. It always seemed to me to be a quick production, that blinds you with good looks, to the Acura GSR or even the superior Type R. I'm just wondering, whose head would have rolled at Toyota Japan if they didn't produce a sport compact car that could compeat with the Honda/Acura market. The Celica was on top with Performance briefly, but there is no room for improvement or any one that whats to improve it due to Toyota period. I should have gotten that GTI and by now I would be putting 400 WHP and taking you all to school. This has to be one of the worst Toyotas I ever owned. My family and I bought 4 total including an earlier 92 Celica. Last one I own, and VW, BMW, Porsche, EVO, Acura here I come.

i love my car, and it would take a lot of cash to get me to sell it. and i think the only reason i would sell my car is if i could get enough money to start building another and some cash on the side. but to answer your question no i never feel like getting rid of my car smile

well, aside from the usual supra, mr2 and corolla. it's just frustrating to know the 7th gen celi isn't that easy to improve upon and many other manufacturers (and even our own) focus on other cars.

I never felt of getting ride of my 79 Chevy Malibu either. Sure it stalled around corners sometimes, but who cares. I loved it. I vowed never to get rid of it. Only because I was young and inexperienced. The Celica was my only choice other than a newer Eclipse. I didn't have time to wait 6 months, a year, or even 2 to get a new car. I test drove some and the Celica seemed the best. I said "I will never mod my car". How it all changes. I now add better parts so it seems fun to drive that piece of s**t. The more I add the better it seems, but I will sell it, for an instance on a better car. You could never keep up with the Jones. Those that say I will keep my Celica forever, wake up. It's not a collectors car or even remotely scarce. Better things are to come. The 7th gen is a sinking ship. Get off while you can or ride the waves with the rats.

what a depressing thread. i remember when the 7th gen first came out i fell in love with it. a few years later i wanted a wrx and since i got rid of my crx i was about to get it... but i ended up getting a celi... which reminded me of how bad i wanted the celi in the first place.

the problem with celi's is that there are NO articles on them whatsoever. all i have are the forums... pick up any car magazine and all you hear about it rally cars. either the STI or EVO... which are great cars, but i wouldn't mind hearing about a celica here and there. people totally disregard the celi and concentrate on the stock Turbo rally cars.

Let me know when you get yours, let's go riding! What kind of bike are you thinking about?

Oh back to the topic, yeah I've thought about it too. Since I got my bike, all I do is ride. I'd rather have a "beater" that's already paid off (maybe a 97-98 240SX?) than pay 250/mo for a car payment and 300/mo for ins. thumbsdown It's like I only use my car if I have to...for the A/C, the rain, laundry day and date nights. smile

ok duwd VolksWagen is out of the question.. it's a lame ass stupid fucked up car smile (sorry for the bad langauge)
In holland it's FULL of VW golf and polo.. they buy it for 5000.. tune it for 20.000 and still they're worthless litle peaces of crap smile but the VW Golf and the worst.. the Honda's and Acura's are the worst.. it seems to be a hype to buy a 82 CRX or CIVIC for 3000 and put 20.000 of tuning in and after you're done tuning your engine desides to retire.. smile so not to big fan of Honda or VW.. Honda = crap and VW = not exclusive (but hey that's around here.. every corner has 2 VW's)

I got an auto gts from the start and didnt know what i had gotten into since it was my first car. I love the celi but always am in the need for more speed. I have been looking for about 3 or 4 months at a new car or tranny swap and ended up coming across this awesome deal on a 350Z. At one time I was thinking about a Trams Am but after riding in the 350Z it was sold.

I can't find the link but I read a thread that had a link about honda owners hating on celicas listed the reason they hate toyota (among many others)is because toyota paid big dollars to try to change the ruling on Turbo settings after the toyota team was caught tampering with it. try searching under honda threads within this site. I would search but I gotta go!

Thoroughly enjoying my Celica. It's a fun car to mod and drive.

I'll keep it for at least the next two years. My only real complaints would be that it needs more power and love from TRD.

If the brick heads at Toyota manage to pull their heads out of their collective asses long enough to bring back the Supra (RD and Turbo) or something equivalent, then I'll buy that. If not I'd likely go with something like an EVO 8 or WRX STi.

YES! I hate to say it but my extended warranty runs out in a couple of months and as much as I love Celicas, mine is a lemon. My 1998 Celica has spent way to much time being repaired - at least once a year, excluding maintenance. I just had the idle air control valve (as I saw someone above mention as well) has had to be replaced 4 times in less than 6 years/60K! When I had the 1993 Celica, it had no problems at all. My mom and dad own Camrys that that had no problems until they hit 100K and they were minor. My sister's Tacoma truck has been driven hard and it just keeps going. I don't think the Toyota Celicas have the same kind of quality that they used to. The question is what to get...and what can I afford... spineyes I just love how my car looks and it does have pretty good cargo space when you put fold down the back seats. Grrr...if only it ran well!
