Anybody know of a way to upgrade the spring for upper center console door?

Before my carbon fiber dash kit it used to spring and stay open on it's own.

It's an issue because it's where I keep my GTech computer, it was kinda nice to have it outta site but availbile at the press of the door release button.

No, the door moves freely and will stay open all the way for a few seconds before slowly going down again.

It is the added weight of the carbon fiber dash kit that is over loading the spring mechanism.

Sure, stronger spring is a good idea, but what kind of spring? There are many different types of springs.

I'm sure If I take the time and trouble to pull the center console out I could come up with something that would work, I guess I'm just searching for an easier fix.

my center console was getting old and droopy like an old man, so I took it apart, and in the back there is this piece of plastic that puts pressure on the door when its open, just bend it a little more back towards the other direction, and it will help to keep it up.

If you need more than that, you can get another spring and install it in there, but be careful because it's the kinda spring where the springs tension is holding it together, and if you undo it, it might fall apart and be hard to reassemble.

Nice, thanks for the first hand experience advice. Gives me a much clearer idea of what I'm dealing with here.

Guessing that you had to take apart the center console to get at the spring, on a scale of one to ten what was the pain in the neck factor on that operation?

I think I saw a tread on how to do it around here somewhere.

takes 4 screws and a pull to get it off.

it took me a few minutes to figure out the workings of the spring system, it's a little over engineered (crazy japanese and their technology)

Shouldn't take more than 15 minutes

It's not that hard to keep it together when you take everything appart. Just don't take it appart like a maniac.
