Hey guys and gals,

I was wondering if I would need an amp to run aftermarket 6.5 component speakers for my front speakers. I want really good sound quality. I was thinking of a 4 channel amp for my front and rear speakers.
I had a 2 channel amp powering my old boston acoustics RC620 front speakers. I just upgraded my rear speakers to aftermarket and have a new mp3/cd deck with 3 rca outputs.
I was looking at these speakers: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=32819&item=5700688021&rd=1
and this amp

Any recommendations?

This should work pretty well, Hopefully you know what these speakers sound like before you buy...Alpine makes good equipment and the amp should sound pretty good. When you are finished installing, you will probably be disapointed by the lack of bass. The speakers are relatively small and there is just not enough air space in the panels to support good bass. You might want to consider a good subwoofer and amp instead. It will take up a good bit of room in the trunk, but the results are us worth the loss of space. Good luck...

Aftermarket speakers sound great, but you don't need an aftermarket amplifier to run them. Amplifiers do what amplifiers do best: make things louder! Unless you plan on turning them up loud, I wouldn't spend the money. thumbsdown

Nobodys said anything about the speakers. Bouston Acoustics makes great computer speakers, I know that. I haven't tested any of their mobile audio products. I would go check them out at your nearest electronic store. Test them and make sure you like them. If they sound like crap at the store, it will be 3 times as worse in your car. Choose wisely. rice

Now that I think I have blown my left front speaker I'm going to have to upgrade my speakers.
Just following up with you guys on who has component front speakers without an amp. I can dish out the money for an amp but rather save up my money for my rims. Any recommendations?

there is no need for back speakers and it always sounds better with an amp. if you actullt buy a good amp it will be much more cleaner.

There is no real need for an amp. I currently am pushing my Kappa Perfect components up front and Reference rear speakers just with my 60x4 Panasonic deck. It sounds AWESOME.

BTW... if you have the cash and need new fronts, Kappa Perfects are the ONLY way to go. thumbsup

What accessories am I going to need?
I was thinking I might add another amp and 2 10'' subwoofers down the line sometime. Should I put a 10 gauge wire and run that to the multi channel amp for right now? and then later on remove that power cable to a thicker power cable? Or do you think I should get a 4 gauge cable and buy a splitter to so that i can run 2 8 gauge wires?

an amp is not just to be louder. it also make the sound cleaner, more detailed and less likely to damage a good pair of speakers. if the speakers are design for an external amp the you should run one. if your car needed only premuim gas you wont put desiel in it would you. you always need an amp.
