I Have a set of TRD lowering springs for my 03 GTS, some people are telling me that I must upgrade my struts if I put them on.

Others are telling me that they will be fine with my stock struts that only have 9700mi on them. Any suggestions on this?

the one's who are telling you that you must upgrade don't know jack. your stock struts only have 9700 miles, they'll last 2,3,4 yrs, it all depends how much you drive & what your driving habits are.

this is true...when i had trd springs installed i already had 70K on my stock struts and lasted me 3 months...plus i took corners like a mo-fo...lol

you'll be fine in the stock shocks and struts for some time, I have 5k on mine so far and all is good thumbsup

After reading the following I decided to wait and save up for new stiffer struts to go with my lowering springs.

Despite rear springs that were proportionally stiffer than the fronts, the car seemed to lose its playful handling with the lower springs as well. Just wanted to post this in case somebody was contemplating the same thing I was and they read this thread.

If youre just going for looks springs alone are fine, if youre concerned about handling as well then upgrade springs and struts.

Sure, coil-overs would be best, but too much money for me at this point in time.

I beg to differ. With my stock suspension at 20,000 miles it losened up way too much. The consensus says at 10,000 to 20,000 maybe 15,000 miles (that's the first year and a half). You drop your car on springs alone and don't allow for a shortened strut especially with damping, your going to be riding on blown struts, whether you know it or not, in no time. You would be better to upgrade to something else while the springs are being replaced. If you can do it yourself, then who cares (it is easy). Don't be suprised when in a year things seem to be well worn and loose.

i have the eibach pro kit...definitly was disappointed when i saw it done..not much a difference..cleaned up the gap and make everything look right(insteaed of a HUGE gap which every celica gets when you put aftermarket rims withOUT LOWERING) but its still low enough that you will sometimes bottom out if y ou dont always go on an angle when going off ramps and driveways..so its low enough to make eveyrthing look good..but you wont get the "cruisin low and slow" effect you might expect..but in all honesty..i ended up liking my trd/eibach springs. just expected more of a drop..

I got 1 put a vote in for new struts when you put your springs on, Koni is an awesome company. 2 say that I love my Tanabe springs, 1000x better looking than TRD or Eibach. I must agree that the TRD drop is a joke and not worth the money.

The Tanabe springs (GF210) give a perfect drop (rear wheels almost tuck), and a fantastic ride. On KYB, Koni, or Tokico struts you can't go wrong.

I just ordered my Tanabe DF210s and the website said they would drop 2.2 in the front and 2.5 in the back. ah man, cant wait. thumbsup

i have groundcontrol coilovers and i plan on replacing my struts. but so far i havent noticed any problems with mine. but you never know.

I have an 03, with Eibach Sportlines (1.8"/2.4"). I didn't change the stock struts (only 3K at the time), and I have NO probs. I'm at 12k now, and still no probs. Don't listen to them. They are still NEW struts!

I think if you just drive around and do ur usual going to work or school and bak home or goin out wit ur girl and basically cruise around ur hood then you dont extremely need to worry about your struts goin out on you whereas if you go to the drag strip or bust corners like a mad man then of course you should get some new struts. It all depends on how you drive. thumbsup For me, im just gonna get an alignment and maybe camber kit and thats it for the next 30,000 miles cause i knoe my driving habits. thumbsup

For daily driving.. stock shock and struts are just fine..
I've been riding on just Skunk2 lowering springs for 2 years.. and it's still all good...

i put on my progress springs in the end of march 2004. i stayed with my stock shocks. it's june already and i must say, the ride is getting bumpier only because i drive everyday and where i live, there are so many potholes and bumps. i plan on getting new shocks soon. as for a camber kit, a friend noticed that my wheels are slightly tilted a bit due to the drop. so my next purchase will be my camber kit.

I am putting Tanabe 2" springs on my car in the next few weeks and am still debating on whether to buy Takico or KYB AGX shocks. If I'm not going to be able to tell the difference between the two I'd rather go the cheaper (Tokico) route. But then again I'd rather the KYB if I know I"ll never have to buy shocks again. Any advice anyone? Please
