Why dose Toyota hate the Celica?

I swear toyota goes out of thier way to exclude Celica from any advertising.

Even the local dealer's will not so much as show a Celica in a background shot.

Yet I can't so much as clik on my tv without seeing a comerical for an Aura RSX, Mitsubishi Eclipse or Evo, Subaru WRX STi, Nissan Maxima and every other f**king sports car out there.

And don't even get me started on TRD.

well the Celica doesn't exactly have as much potential customers as say a Camry, or Scion cars. It is a wiser desicion from a bussiness stand point to get the most customers. But I agree how it sucks the Celica gets less coverage on tv but at the same time happy so people are like wow what car is that.. tongue

They have stopped marketing it because it's hard to sell a 180HP car to the masses.

99% of people think that a cars worth is equal to it's HP.

These people buy Mustangs, Firebirds, etc.

What they fail to realize, is that a stock celica will walk all over them in the corners. Too little, too late, and Toyota pulled the plug just like any other company with a failing product

When was the last time you seen an ad for a Viper, or Corvette. Not that the celica is in the same class, but I think people who want it, find it.

Celica's sell themselves. If you go to a dealer and look around the lot you'll notice that there aren't very many celicas if any. They sell quick.

the celica 7th gen is winding down...it is unfortunate that toyota did not have the foresight to compete with future sports coupe (aka EVO,WRX,350Z...even our rival the 2.0L 200hp RSX-S which responds better to mods than our 7th gens)...instead it went to compete with the current sports coupe at the time of it's release aka GSR, ITR, etc. still, the celica is a great car...uber fun to drive and LOOKS GREAT. toyota realises where the celica is at...and for now, scion is the priority. wether an 8th gen is real is yet to be seen...

Toyota's current ad campaign is a classic example;

The "Toyota Nationwide Sales Drive"

The commercial is centered around a racing theme with lots of black and white checkered flags and Toyota vehicles driving fast (mostly trucks) and the announcer uses lots of words like sporty..fast..performace..etc, but not a Celica or MR2 anywhere in sight.

I agree that they don't really "hate" the Celica per say, and that Celica pretty much sells itself, and according to my dealer new ones don't stay on the lot for more than a week.

But Damn it would be nice if their advertising at least acknowledged the existence of the Celica.

And better TRD support! Matrix and Corolla get superchargers b4 us, that's messed up. Would it be so hard for TRD to release a CAI or ECU tweaks..etc etc?

Yeah I know there are a million marketing reasons why they dont and they all suck.

I hope they are just going to stop producing our car this year and maybe give us a few more TRD mods, as there already is a good number of important parts for the car from Toyota.

I have no idea what's with the lack of adds, I guess they are more focused on their cars that sell well.. that and the Celica is overpriced, the RSX is a bit cheaper and I think is better known (perhaps thanks to the Type-R) but otherwise I have no idea.

My only complaint about the Celica overall is how it is overpriced, a bit underpowered (I think just more torque would even it out) and that TRD charges so much..otherwise I'm fine. I like how are car isn't really trendy like the Civic or RSX and that it's comming slightly rare and that there has been talk of discontinueing it be it rumor or not. Well that and everyone thinks it's a slow car but that's fine.. people will find out the hard way.

Yeah the car sells itself that why you can never find them at end of the year clearences. I've had a good amount of people come up to me and say "nice car" or something to that effect and mines basically stock.

take a trip down to your local automotive parts store and look at all the bottles of cleaning/polishing chemicals... there are AT LEAST two brands with Celica happily displayed on the front label wave

Toyota does look like they have Scion crazy. The Celica looks great and the Scion is butt ugly. But what car is in all the adds? Scion! Toyota made a mistake with the apparently unmodifiable 180 hp GTS engine. 20 to 40 more hp would get a lot more people buying these things. The stock RSX is cheaper with more power and features than the Celica. The GTS is overpriced for the target market buying these cars. 27 grand for a 180 hp engine? Why hasn't Toyota came out with a competitive engine that will keep up with the competition? Toyota is asleep at the wheel with the Celica.
