Hey guys, after reading all the posts about cleaning the MAF I decided to try it out. So I went out to my car and took off one of the screws and they other one is stripped! No way I'll get it out with a screwdriver.
So my question is: How the hell am I going to get it out? or Should I just forget about cleaning it and deal with it when it NEEDS to be taken out??
^^^^ that's what I was thinking. I really don't want any chance of anything getting in there.
I don't know how it got stripped. I had my Injen CAI installed along with a bunch of other stuff at my local speed shop so I'm guessing they did it but good luck ever placing blame on them for that. Won't get anywhere with that complaint I'm sure.
If at all possible, the safest bet would be to remove the Intake to work on it.
Removing a stripped screw is a fairly straight forward mechanical procedure though it can get tricky. Removing the risk of Intake contamination will make your task much easier.
It is seriously difficult to get quality work done on a car.
The monkeys at a local speed shop that I had install my Intake did a seriously f**ked up job cutting the holes in the engine bay and broke my wheel well plastics to boot. I made them give the money back for the labor. Took me hours to undue their damage, I should have done the job myself in the first place.
Unless it's major engine or suspension work, I won't let anyone touch my car these days.
^^^ good point. I really don't trust people with my car nowadays. It so annoying that they can't even install a CAI without screwing up something. I think I'll take the bumper off and remove the Intake, then drill it out. I was trying to make my car better and now I have to deal with actually fixing it.
I hope no one takes offense to this but white people are retards w/ cars compared to asians. I had a friend w/ an old celica who took his car upto Jiffy Lube for an oil change. The oil filter blew off and his engine caught on fire...I haven't heard any complaints about an asian working on a car. Sounds kinda stereotypic but...its true and I'm asian too
Imma go look at my maf screws, and see if i did strip one how i would get it off... let me help ya out...
did you try using pliars to remove it?
i dont want to make you take off your bumper and all that crap to get one screw out... take some Intake cleaner and spray it on the bolt (i dont want yout spray wd-40 around there) then just push it back and forth to loosen the screw, then try differnt sized screw drivers, even if its stripped you maybe able to get it out with another screw driver bigger/smaller...
No need to pull front bumber to get at cai. I just turn my front wheels all the way to the left and remove the wheel well plastic liner, much easier and gives you all the room you need to install, remove, or change/clean filter on your cai.

Um... iono about that. I'm asian too but i won't let another Viet mechanic touch my car again. The family mechanic f**ked up my brake system, screwed up doing oil changes, swapped hub caps, and etc on my Accord back in high school. The guy was a Honda specialists too. Caucasian's do a good job around here, just that, they charge up the ying-yang. I dont care if they're black, hispanic, martians or mermaids... as long as they fix my car correctly, I'm happy and they better be cool grease monkeys.

I take offense to it. I know lots of good mechanics, some of the best I've ever met are white guys. I've met a couple asian guys who were good too, but then again, I also knew an asian guy who continued to drive his prelude even though his DC header blew a weld on one of the collector pipes... there was no weld, it was completely gone, yet he kept driving it, didn't replace the header, didn't take it to an exhaust shop, he didn't even put JB WELD on the damn thing!
You shouldn't view everybody in such a stereotypical light; I personally do the majority of the maintainance and work to my own car, always have and will continue to do so.
Just remember, stupidity is colorblind, it affects all races, creeds, sexes and religious affiliations, and the only thing dumber than stupidity is racism.
Thanks for all the suggestions and racial viewpoints. I definately did NOT take my car to jiffy lube... I would NEVER after the stories I've heard. I don't even really like taking it to TOYOTA.
But what I was thinking is trying what CelicaRacer05 said and if not I'm gonna have to take off the bumper and drill it out... do it myself.. not taking it back to the "mechanics". PS CelicaRacer... I can't get pliers on it cause it's recessed in the sensor.
haha, same with me too. i just tried to go RE-clean it and there stripped. This will be my next project for tomorrow. keep us posted with how you get yours out 00GTShope.
