I know that in most cases, manuals dyno in third gear for the most accurate hp/torque curve. What would I do for an auto? We just got a new shop with a dyno and me and a couple buddies were thinking of rolling down to check it out, and I want to dyno my 02 GT for shits and giggles. Do I leave it in 2nd, 3rd w/o Overdrive or what?

I was watching Two Guys Garage this afternoon, and they dynoed a Ford F250 Super Duty automatic. While on the dyno, they ran it in 3rd with the torque converter locked up. How do I lock up the torque converter?

Ok, answered my own question, at least one of them. Here's one someone might know: Which fuse deals with the transmission/drivetrain etc.?

Do not do lock up the torque converter. The auto celica is a four speed right? that means the best gear to dyno it in is 2nd. I think the F250 is a 5 speed Auto thats why they left it in 3rd. Do not use overdrive it will fuck up all the readings cause it adapts to the pressure put on the wheels and you will get weird reading. Afriend of mine threw it into OD and on the 1st run got 98 then on the second run he got 175 without it he got a steady 125(99 Si).

dynos are hardly ever accurate anyway.

the only real accurate way to do it is to use the same exact dyno with the same exact dyno settings with the same exact car.

there are so many variables that it hurts to think of them all...that said, you can stay within about a 10-20 whp 'margin' between different cars and different dynos..but then again a 10-20 whp difference is a LOT.

I don't know about where you live, but here, it'll cost me $75 for 3 runs without any tuning in between.
