i was explained in full detail by a toyota tech on how lift works but i have no idea about Turbo. lift works on oil pressure and same with VVT-I and the variable valve timing. as for the aftermarket valve controllers they fake the oil pressure in most cases so i was told.

just in case anyone cares, i found out how it works...

A boost controller goes inline with the hose running to the wastegate actuator. the wastegate opens at a set PSI, allowing exhaust gasses to pass AROUNd the exhaust turbine, so the Turbo doesnt create any more boost than it is at the set point. A boost controller is placed inline with that vacuum hose running to the wastegate actuator, and basically limits the amount of pressure the wastegate actuator sees. They come in two forms, mechanical and electrical, the electric ones use a solenoid and can be controlled from inside the cabin of the car. Units like the Greddy Profec B have remote buttons to mount on places like your steering wheel or shifter, with the push of a button you can set your boost controller from one setting to another. Mechanical are adjustable withj the turn of a knob typically. Usually they are found in the engine bay but some people run them into the interior.
For example, if your wastegate spring opens at 6psi, you can put a boost controller in and have it set to open at anywhere from 6psi till your Turbo quits making boost.
