So will a (AEM) CAI decrease Performance w/ stock exhaust??

I came across this thread:
GreyStreet posted
request...how a CAI will make a GT sound

and some members said it would and some said it wouldn't decrease Performance with a stock exhaust?? confused

From personal experience I would say no. I have a GT when I put mine on I just had the stock exhaust & I could tell right away that the Performance was better. By better I mean more low end torque and a lil more HP that you could feel. Not a whole bunch but enough that you can tell the difference.

it won't decrease Performance. if you need proof..i have a few dynos of celicas with only cai's and as you will see..there is a slight torque increase and a slight whp increase, definately not a decrease thumbsup

No, it will not decrease Performance. I recently put in an AEM CAI on my auto GT, still running with the stock exhaust. I immediately noticed a difference in hp and torque beginning at around 3500 RPMs. Also, the higher the RPMs you go, the louder and sweeter it sounds. thumbsup

i think what people mean by decrease is that somemtimes Intakes bog even CAI systems and there are some dips in the power band compared to stock...but this is neglegible...mid-hi range CAI have been proven Performance-wise! thumbsup

the bogging seems to have to do with the placement of the maf. you'd think aem, injen and the rest could do better "engineering" to prevent this. they probably believed the problem is so minor they felt the positives outweigh the negatives.

this is true...blue bomber from NC has resolved this with a CAI modification...people have tried it with amazing results. thumbsup

and as for the sound... deep.

How can an engine suck more in then it let out?? confused
Piston goes down and pushes the gasses out.
Piston goes up and sucks the gasses in.

Or am I wrong.

An aftermarket exhaust can reduce restrictions --> little more flow.
An aftermarket intake can reduce restrictions --> more flow.

And thus it creates more power (but it is not much, unless the stock intake and exhaust had a lot of restrictions).

BUT if the exhaust can not remove the gasses quick enough it could be possible that the engine can not suck more air in (even with an aftermarket intake) and thus it would not create more power. I'm not saying this is with a GT but it could be possible. Just find out what the bottleneck of the 1zz engine is.

I think they may need to check the machine they used to get these results, or perhaps the dyno is a fake, but 10 horsepower increase after adding a CAI? wtf

our stock exhausts can let enough air flow... you can have a Turbocharged celi and stock exhaust and it will still flow the air...

aftermarket exhausts are just less restrictive.
