ok so im going from a 2000 GTS 16" rims to something else and im not sure what to do. I LOVE the look of 18" rims and i would wanna get like 235/40r 18" for tires but how much would that slow me down in the 0-60 and also how do i realign my speedo? anyone have a converter site or anything? i herd a friend talking about it but it was a long time ago. I just don't wanna get 18" and slow down my car that much. thanks peeps

18" will slow you the hell down, this is coming from experience. i dont race anyways so if you plan to race get 17" or better yet stick with 16"
as far as the speedo dont mess with it just leave it be b4 you fudge something up
i think if you go with bigger rims its about 3-5mph off so if your running 65mph your actual speed is 70 mph...not sure though thumbsup

^^ it really depends on how light your wheels are.

as a rule of thumb, 18" wheels are heavier than 17" wheels are heavier than 16" wheels and so on. this is quite obvious.

however, some companies specialize in making very light wheels that still have big diameters (up to 20"). one such company is centerline..who advertises their 20" wheels to weigh 23 lbs...or about the same weight (give a pound or two) of your stock 16" gts alloys.

diameter does have a little bit to do with it..but most importantly it's weight. if you buy an 18" rim that weighs about 22-23 lbs then you won't really see a Performance decrease. obviously the problem is just finding an 18" wheel that weighs that..the more specialized you get the less options are available. thumbsup

umm, diameter has a lot to do with it. if you run steel 15s they'll accelerate a lot quicker due to the fact that their mass is spread evenly throughout the entire wheel. however, if you go with an 18, no matter how light, it will always accelerate slower because the moment of inertia is twice that of the solid piece. simple physics, solid cylinder is .5 mass x (radius)squared ; where a hollow cylinder is mass x (radius)squared. so the wheels would have to weigh a hell of a lot less to be close to the speed of a smaller wheel. thumbsup

Maybe I'm just crazy, but if you get the right size tire for your new wheels... the speedo should only be off by fractions of a mph.
