here's the link to their 1zz-fe add:

http://monkeywrenchracing.com/mwr_toyota_1zz_fe_big_bore_kit.html

hello all, i would just like to get a review from anyone who's had their big bore kit on a GT...there's 2 settings for it, one for NA and another for Turbo.., i'm assuming a big bore kit will help me rev higher than 7 rpm, if i'm wrong then correct me.

and another question: what is a big bore kit? what exactly is being done or replaced in my engine? how duz it help perform better? thanks to whoever replies

I am not exactly sure, but I think a big bore kit is to make your engine 'bigger', from 1.8l to 2.0l.
It will not allow you to rev higher, I think.

increasing the bore increases the displacment.

whats good about this is that torque is much easier to come by the more your displacment is. this is where you will notice the biggest difference. and of course your whp will increase as well thumbsup

the big bore kit, is where they make your cylinders a little bigger, and put higher strength internals into your engine...new pistons, rods, etc...you won't be able to rev higher due to the fuel cutoff programmed into the 1zz ecu...but you will have more whp, and more potential from the other aftermarket stuff, and you'll be able to drive hard (high revs) without worrying about it destroying your engine in the long run. To rev higher you will need an ecu replacement, such as the wonderful Apexi Power Fc... thumbsup...and it would help to get a lightened flywheel which will help you to get to redline faster

wouldn't you be able to tune the maps using a dyno with a wide-band 02 sensor, and the FC commander?. confused...I know you can play with the A/f Ratio on the GTS's like you did Lucky (which I think is awesome and inspiring BTW)...yeah sure, no one here has it for the GT yet, but I'm sure you could get something out of it..say if you had a head port, or put the new catcams cams in? confused...I know I probably could get something being as I've put the MWR higher comp. internals in my 03 GT...and I'm sure you could move the Fuel-Cutoff back a little, say from 6,800 rpm to 7,200 rpm or something...I don't see the complication as to the tuning of the GT, but you tell me man, you're the expert as far as that goes, and I'm all ears as far as your input on the subject thumbsup

theres a member on ncorg who has a gt Turbo set up who just ordered the power fc, i'll be tuning his car on it soon.

its not much different with the gt vs the gts on the datalogic.

changing the vvt is where most of the power is made, BUT i dont know what the best vvt settings are as I haven't touched one yet, that is the hardest part to figure out. its all hit and miss and you can make power in both directions...

Werd! I talked to Craftsman Automotive in VA about doing this and it will cost a grip. They say it would cost around 2k to do everything (plus the cost of the parts). So that comes out to around 4k I think, new valves, pistons, valve springs, studs, so on. This may be a long term goal for me since I want to keep the celica for several years.
