Dressing up engine question...please help!

I'm going to dress up my engine (i.e., replace the stock black hoses with colored ones, replace black wire covers with colored ones, etc.)...but I was told by a guy at Nu Image (the local mod shop...one of them at least) that you could only replace certain hoses in the engine with the silicone hose kits. Now, being nearly retarded when it comes to engines, can someone point out the hoses to me that I can change safely? Maybe give me a link to a diagram and explain which ones are which, etc? The help would be greatly appreciated, the stock engine is nice but just looks so...stock. Thanks!
