I'm planning for the future (and with the price of rims I think it's going to be a while), and I was wondering what you guys think of these SSR competition rims. I want to get 16x7 they are $295 a piece, but the thing is they only weigh 11.5 lb each. I want to get a body kit at some point but I don't want huge rims. What do you all think?

You should get at least 17's if your planning to get a kit, if not, be ready for some serious scraping!! Also, it depends on what kit your gonna get as well. If you had the stock GTS rims(16') then thats ok because its what the ride came with, but if your gonna go aftermarket then get 17' and avoid the scraping given the chance to. thumbsup

They are EXCELLENT LIGHTWEIGHT rims. I personally want a pair for myself. One bad thing about them is that you gotta avoid potholes, dips and what not like the plauge because the lip of the rim is easily bent.

Yikes eek Maybe I should rethink the lightweight thing, potholes and bumps are everywhere around my house. cry

This sucks, angry I really wanted lighter rims since the celi is kinda slugish anyway, rolleyes but I think there's too much risk involved in driving those around my area.

As for the body kit, I'm either going to get a wingswest (if I can get one before they discontinue the design) or kamanari. I want to also get the full trd suspension kit(1.2" drop I think) so what kind of wheels would you guys recomend in order to keep from scraping the kit?

I'd like to stay with gun metal if I could.

Thanks wave

Those are incredible wheels!!! I was planning on getting those also, but I can't swing the $300 or above price tag for wheels again like I use to. Like Steven said you could bend a wheel driving on some crappy roads. People use those mainly for the track and swap to a different wheel on public roads. I personally think you would be alright on normal everyday driving on the SSR's. Just don't plan on flying around town over crappy roads and/or get a tire with a bigger aspect ratio. Not too big to defeat the whole purpose of handling and looks. Is as light as you can go your main concern? Will you be track racing? If not, any forged wheel will be just as good or better if you can find our offset in it and can afford spending maybe twice that. Light weight and extremely tough But, scrape those expensive wheels and you'll wish you never got them. Good luck. Check this out about SSR wheels... Problems with SSR Comp. Wheels? [villacorte.com]

Well, light-weight isn't really my main concern. I'm not really looking to go to the track, it's just that I want to get something that I'm not going to regret buying later.

If I get really light-weight rims then there's a greater chance that they'll get bent(if I'm reading all this correctly)

I definitely don't want anything bigger than 17" cause I just don't care for the look personally. I was looking at the ssr comps on tirerack.com because they are supposed to be forged stronger than other wheels that I was looking at and they are really light-weight.

As I said before, Performance isn't the most imporant to me, I just don't want to make the celi any slower with the wheels I get, cause that would kinda defeat the perpose of me adding Performance mods spineyes

The price is quite steep also, looking over it again I don't think I can justify spending $1600 on rims and tires. So are there any other suggestions on rims?

(sorry the post is so long)

Thanks for all of the advise thumbsup

the only ones you can buy from the usa are ssr competitions which come in 16x7.5 not 16x7

anyways, i have a set of 16x7.5s on my ride and i can tell you i have hit quite a few pot holes and never had any problems with the wheels.

16's are great for drag racing(15's would be better)

for the track/circut 17's would be better for a lower profile tire and better latteral grip.

btw I love these wheels they are awesome. a set of 4 reduced my unsprung weight by 8-9lbs on each tire and dropped overal weight by 32-35 lbs.

highly reccommend them!
