does anyone on here have a list of parts required for the 3SGTE swap into a 6th gen ST Celica.

i need to know what all i need to buy, and somewhere i can find the parts.

also i was wandering about the mounts, do i have to custom ones made and if so who can i get to make them

also what will i need to convert to RWD.

Try a search, I remember seeing a link that sole the engine, and ECU and everything. On top of that you might want to consider a Tranny swap. An older MR2 ('91 I think) has been said to work on the 7th gens, so I assume it should work on a 6th.

i am buying a JDM 3sgte from the 3rd gen MR2 for 1800.

it includes the engine, tranny, ECU, wire harness, manifolds, and Turbo. it has approximately 18-30k miles

i am probably going to get spearco to custom make an intercooler for me

i need to know what else i will need. i am going to ask about the drive shafts. but what i really need to know about is the mounts

the mounting points on the 3sgte from the alltrac/mr2 are damn near identical as the 7th gens,

3 mounts are located on the transaxle itself, and 1 side mount is on the block.

now if those mounts will allow you to clear the firewall and radiator is another story,

your probably going to have to find a fabricator who can weld/drill new mounting locations for the difference, and most likely need install a thinner radiator/fans, and relocate your coolant overflow and battery, new throttle cable and shifter cables, wireing harness, ecu,

its gonna cost at least double-triple the cost of the engine to get it in and working.

along with custom axles/driveshafts, and front breaks

then you gotta pray you dont go snapping axles left and right.

I think someone did that same swap that is a memeber on here, he had a 6th generation ST and swapped it, i forgot his name but if he sees this im sure he can help you

dude you got to give as much info as possible.
what tranny are you using? is the 3sgte from an mr2 or celica? which generation is it? 2nd or 3rd?

anyway.you got an st.the mounts would have to be changed.go to the junk yard and have someone cut the bosses(the actual metal) off of a gt or gts celica and weld them onto the st.
the st 7afe,engine sits straight up- the gt/gts 5sfe engine engine sits at an angle like the 3sgte.
you are going to have to change the cross member.
no,dont consider going awd just yet,its difficult cause you have to reroute the exhaust,get the rear shaft,and diff,and the gas tank has to be moved(yeah gas tank dude) rear wheel drive conversion are a lot of shit if you want it like factory.(making an st celica into a gt4)
first of all you have chosen the harder of the three 6th gen that can do that swappe(the st) the gt or gts would have been easier cause the mounts and crossmember would have already been there.

this is some very complicated stuff,and if you dont have everything to do the swappe,dont start or you are going to be down for a long time waiting for simple parts like(air flow meter,if 2nd gen.or shafts that match in length,spline to the existing wheel components.
i have done the swappe before,and have seen it being done.but to be honest with you,never to a "6th gen st"
toyota in those cars,unfortunatly is not like honda where the parts can interchange like that. they are close but not identical.even with the trannys from year to year,there is always some little shit that you have to go to the machine shop to do!
good luck dude,but try to get a gt or gts so the angle of the 3s would be right.to high,hits the hood,too low oil starvation under rpm upward slope or is it downward slope,cant remember.

if you cant tell which one of the gen 3sgte you got send me a pic of the motor i can tell by looking at it

buy a front clip with the dash and all electronics including tranny and shafts. thumbsup
you would still have to cut the mounts off the one car to reweld on the st. thumbsup

and i kind-of have already started, you see i wanted to do this anyways, but now its either this or a new ST engine(7afe) which i def. don't want to waist my money on.

also what kind of tools will i need, my dad is going to buy and engne hoist, and a welder; what kind do you suggest and what else will make the swap easier

ok dude,it looks like you have the 3rd gen motor.
but make sure,have them send you a picture of the back of the motor showing the Intake,and the front showing around the Turbo and oil filter area.(the Intake should show four(4)individual big runners and not 8 smaller runners casted into one.

yes the mounts from a 5th or 6th gen gt/gts celica or 2nd and 3rd gen mr2 can work.

the tranny that is going to come with that motor is going to be one of the toyota e 153 (i think)trannys they are skightly diffrent from year to year and you would have to correctly choose the shafts you are going to use.

if you are going awd,that tranny will not be able to use.
if you trouble finding an awd tranny,i can sell you one for a good price(so good you wont believe,cause shipping is going to be a bitch to get it to the mainland.)

alot of stuff,you would have needed for the 2nd gen motor,you would not need for the 3rd gen,air flow meter being the main one.(but you have to confirm with the seller that it is infact the 3rd gen motor)

harness: you realize that the harness would have to be cut and extended right.
its from an mr2,its going to be short,and even if it was a celica,it came in on the oposite side in the jdm cars.
note. there might be a funny looking wire in the harness,i think it looks like a small co ax cable,make sure you have the means of getting it joined back.
(i'm going by memory,and it has been a long time since doing those swappes,back then i had the "racing drive" and my friends,some of which are very technical people were not married with kids etc.and had the time to screw around with projects like this one,in the name of speed.also the harnesses differ from car and year and specification,us,euro,jdm etc.

rear wheel:more work,alot more if you are going original.
are you sure it wouldnt be cheaper to purchase a 6th gen gt4 and spend the money to have it converted to left hand drive.it can be shipped to a company in florida that will arrange for it to be done in the dominican republic and shipped back to florida.

btw tell your dad to get a mig welder and a small plasma cutter. thumbsup

ok about how much would rwd cost compared to just staying fwd

and is it worth it, wouldn't awd be even more expensive and harder to do

and would it be smarter to convert to rwd now(cheaper too) compared with doing sometime in the future

ok,if you put the 3sgte in along with the e153 (mr2 tranny)
it would be front wheel drive.if you have a gt or gts tranny from the 5th or 6th gen it would work also.

THIS IS THE CHEAPER AND EASIER WAY TO GO

if you put the 3sgte in along with the celica awd tranny,you would need the rear suspension,diff,move the gas tank,move the exhaust,(shafts run where exhaust now runs)
a lot of work.
THIS IS WHERE IT BEGINS TO GET EXPENSIVE AND TECHNICAL.
easy if you have access to 5th or 6th gen gt4 parts.

you mentioned rear wheel drive,dont even think about it,you would need a diffrent tranny still( any w series tranny from celicas or supras)the location of the motor in the engine bay,changes,and provisions for engine mount has to be considered.the mounts are going to be longer and need to be stronger.where the Turbo sits on the 3sgte,there is a bracket holding the Turbo and the manifold along with a number of bolt holes in that area,a custom made mount has to be fabricated to take the preasure of the engine,turbo and manifold,the side mount(now the front mount on the crank case cover) has to be modified (i used two rod end links,the ones we use on race cars for 4 link bars)to help hold the engine in the bay(motor has a lot of torque it needs something to hold it firm esp.on luanching hard with slicks.the oil pan need to change,for rwd,depends on the tranny you get,the starting motor also need to change.

btw i did not put a 3sgte into a 6th gen celica rear wheel drive.i however put a 3sgte (more than one actually)into a
ae86(1986) corolla and even into the 1992 corolla that never came rear wheel drive it was converted to rear wheel for drag purposes.

ITS EXPENSIVE IF YOU ARE NOT DOING THE WORK YOURSELF.

ok so other than FWD, AWD is the cheapest and easiest

would it make it more expensive harder if i just did the engine swap now and did the AWD swap further in the future

i have finally got my money and plan on ordering the engine or what ever it is that i am going to buy this weekend
i've got $7,500 in my account right now so i'm pretty happy, just to make my parents(who gave me $2000) happy and my grandparents (who gave me $5000) i am going to save at least $2000, i am still working and don't have any bills but i do still owe my Great grandmother $3500, so i kept out $500 and am going to start making somewhat regular payments, she's not in a real big hurry and she does not want me to pay her back completely right now because she knows what i am trying to do

actually when i was born, they opend a Pioneer fund in my name and have bee adding to it ever since, they had decided to that they give it to me when i graduated high school to help me buy a car or something, but since i have this one ispending it on an engine, and my parents kind of owed me $1500 for taking the money i had saved up since i was born and spending it on the house we built this happened about 6 years ago thats why i got so much

i started responding to your questions about the swapp but the site or my computer was playing games,it gave me a whole bunch of unreadable stuff on the screen(everything changed from the normal page layout to something else.

since when, you do realize that this engine is was powered the 6th gen celica alltracs right, the only part of exaust and Intake that i will need is the piping, not manifolds
