Here is the cover article of their premier issue: The TRD Supercharged Celica. I'm a fan of the looks thumbsup, not of the gains :thumbsdow

Check the math on it: $18,000 for the car, and $27,000 alone in upgrades. If you read it closely, this isn't even a Celica on the market. This is a car built pre-2000 as a model of what was going to come along in Gen 7. They (TRD) keep tweaking with it to test things on it.

I'm really impressed with this magazine. It's short, but it's only a first issue. They do a lot of talking about pros/cons of different things. Lots of research into different cars.

I saw it on Car and Driver TV. The TRD supercharged Celica wasn't very impressive. And the price? puke

Yeah $27k USD and the car is only comparable in terms of 0-62mph and quarter mile as to what the GTS runs stock. It is incredibly sad.. and I am extremely dissapointed with that article. THe car looks fuckin' bad ass though and although I didn't read it all, I hope the car performs terrific on the track, because I know the GTS with some suspension mods can eat some pretty nice cars (porsche, EVO etc.) on the track with very little put in.

C'mon guys... what type of speeds do you expect from a car that has a FULL widebody kit - huge Aftermarket wheels (says 17" in the specs, but the pictures look larger than 17" wtf), and a whole bunch of other items that are not generally used when racing for the fastest time wave

Also realise as well these are the same guys that tested the gts at 15.7...modded GT can hit that time...obviously their drivers suck.

For the $26k USD put into that car it's engine Performance is very very disappointing, the car runs the same times in the quarter mile and 0-62mph as a stock GTS.

But hopefully the suspension and weight reduction mods evens things out for the track, because I know a stock GTS can run with a EVO and a lightly modded (suspension wise, maybe some other smaller gain mods like exhaust and Intake) can take on some Porsches on the track.

The car looks really awsome though and it looks fun as hell, just disappointed with how minimal gains it has.

I wonder what times this would run WITHOUT the FULL WIDEBODY KIT... The specs are already 100lbs heavier than stock GT 2,400lbs. After going through the article/pictures, it looks as though two different sets of wheels were used - but what about all the wind drag on the sticking out fenders?

Obviously the $40k price tag isn't realistic to the average joe-schmoe econmy vehicle (celica) buyer - but then again, there are many people who see something and will pay any amount to get an exact replica of the original.

There are also many people who ask the same question, "what can I do to get my GT as quick as a GTS"... well, here is your answer - now all you have to do is find the additional $8k for all the additional Performance options to make it happen... and allot of people commenting on this topic have already dumped an additional $10k into their cars for aftermarket parts anyways... so this works out good for them - and also good for new owners looking for a simple bolt-on boost to their car.

another thing to consider is that 140lbs of tq executes at 4K rpm on the s/c GT...133lbs. of tq exucutes at 6Krpm on a GTS...

Too bad that a REAL driver is never going to get behind the wheel of that thing at a track.

For as crappy as the magazine drivers are, it could probably hit low 13's rofl

They need to hire lucky..
so now I'm confused what would be a better car to fix up with Turbo and end up being faster in the end?
GT or GTS

Yea, that is the article that i mentioned that said the GT had a GTS rear disc break conversion for 300 dollars, plus that thing is going to haul ass, if you put everything that has on a stock body with stock wheels and maybe gut it you can prolly hit 13s to lower 14s with basically just as much power as a GTS in a cheaper car.. so i wouldn't nessarily bash it till we see some times with other drivers, because we all know that we can drive our cars faster in the 1/4 then what magazines say, 15.7 stock for GTS seems low but they rate it that
