Alright I was just about to order my teins why i found out that your sopose to replace your struts/shocks when you lower your car due to more pressure on them. Now fisrt one person said the celica dose not have shocks jsut in the back. My dad went and check the car and said yea there in the back and in the frount are some McPharens (sp) struts. So which one do I need to replace if Im lowering them. I have seen packages that inlcude 4 shocks but how can that be if they have no shocks up frount? Im confused please help. confused

They say that you are supposed to get them if you do more than a 2 inch drop. It's bullshit though, because the factory cambers can be adjusted to align the wheels after the car is lowered. No need for aftermarket parts.

At least that's what I was told.

you have struts stableizing all 4 wheels...the only shocks on the car are the ones holding up the trunk (those 2)

That's right. Lower your car on stock Toyota struts especially with almost 70,000 miles or was that kilometers and they will blow in no time. Lower your car on stock struts with 5,000 miles and drive like grandma and they will last for maybe 50,000 miles more. It will put more wear and tear to the struts even if you get the stock ones replaced with something better. You would be better off replacing the struts too with the springs or get some coilovers.

true coil overs come with new struts, coil over kits are just springs that have an adjustable base. you shouldn't feel a bad ride due to having coilovers if they have quality struts, go with tanabe or hotchkis if you want full coil overs. otherwise just get the trd or eibach springs with kyb agx struts. thumbsup

Ill have to do some looking around to see if coilovers or springs/sturts is the best deal. Im trying to spend less than $400. I can get teins shiped for 168. Just gotta find some resonable priced shocks. If you know anything let me know. Like websites to get a good deal at.

Thanks for the help. Im gone for the night. I have school in the morning. frown

Some whacky info. going on in this thread..

No matter what anyone says, if you are dropping your vehicle more than 1" then it is a very wise idea to get new shocks/struts because you're stock shocks may not last more than a year and getting everything done at once will save you labour time and money.

I'be looked at a lot of differant brands lately and I'd say Tokico is the best bang for the buck, it lowers about 1.3" and it seems to be pretty good quality and Performance from what people say.. not a harsh ride either.

TRD is pretty overpriced and their springs are just made by Eibach and their shocks well I don't remember who they are made by, possibly Bilstein?

Hotckis I don't know of they make shocks or struts but they make an overall wicked and the best suspension kits for our cars.

KYB shocks/struts have also been recommended for our cars.

But remember.. drop it more than a inch and you'll suffer in a year, give or take.

you're not gonna get coilovers for less than $400. so stick with lowering springs & save up to buy new struts 'cuz your stock struts have a lot of miles on them.
