hi i have a 2001 celica gts
i had an quickshifter/shortshifter installed from the dealer and i just have a question if anybody has the same thing i do...but when i put it in reverse i have to pretty much slam the stick into the e-brake to be able to put it in..likewise if i have it in second gear i can't even pull the e-brake because the stick's/knob is in the way

is this normal?

wtf are you talking about??? reverse is in the upper left completely away from the ebrake, how are you having to slam it?

well the e-brake is left of the stick and reverse is in the upper left like you said
so in order to get it into reverse you have to push to the left to go up to reverse right? well with the short/quick (whichever) shifter it's as if all the gears are shifted left so like 5th gear looks like 3rd gear you know? so when i put it in reverse i have to push so far left that the stick hits the ebrake and it's stiff as hell to get in so like i said i have to pretty much slam it into the side of the e-brake to get it far enough left...

kinda hard to explain do you get what i mean though?

Unless you have a long e-brake handle there shouldn't be a problem.. if anything you'd kind of think there would be less problem since the shift stick is shorter than stock and if you have problems with a short-shifter than you would have had a world of problems with stock length.

But again it makes no sense.. if you're car is in neutral then the stick should be center, and if you can shift into first gear with no problem, then you shouldn't have a problem going left about half an inch more and then up.

Maybe post pictures?

how the hell is it hitting the e-brake,
i understand you are saying that short shifter moves the gears closer to the left.
but if reverse is in the top left, how is it hitting the e-brake, if it hits the e-brake, than it should be second gear.
or are you trying to say that your arm or hand is hitting the e-brake?
unless you have long e-brake,

i have a b&m shortshifter (whcih i installed myself along with a couple friends)...i have no problem with the e-brake.

did you get the trd shortshifter? i've heard of some people complaining about 'pinching' their thumb/fingers when they have to put the gts 6spd into reverse. (supposedly the trd shottshifter is a little longer and it comes close to the ebrake).

well the e-brake arm extends to just about next to reverse right?
so when i pull the stick over to the left to move up into reverse (it's a L action right?) i have to pull it over so far...and so hard because it's apparantly really stiff, that the stick hits the arm of the e-brake so when it's in second i cant pull the brake up because the arm hit's the knob

It does it to me too. You're not alone. I have the TRD SS, and it's a little taller than most short shifters.

The TRD SS angles the gears up and to the left, closer to the driver. My sixth gear is in the same spot neutral is with the stock shifter.

For those of you who don't see how shifting into reverse can hit the E-Brake, look at your car one more time. You have to move the shifter over to the left towards the E brake before you put it into reverse. It does hit the E-Brake, and it is normal.

Don't worry about it.

Actually, I don't think that mine does this anymore. I know that it did it a lot when I first installed it, but now that I've gotten used to it and broken it in, I don't believe it hits the E-Brake anymore. Or maybe I just havn't noticed.

I don't think it does this with all short shifters, perhaps just the TRD. I believe it's because it has a greater height and throw than other short shifters, but regardless, it's not that big of a deal. It won't damage the brake or shifter.

yeah it doesn't bug me that much cept it's hard to get in at first but i just wanted to make sure it wasn't something faulty...

but yeah as for the throw i haven't used other SS's before but this one was an incredible improvement from stock

thanks again

On another note, I had to adujst my shifting method from putting my thumb on top of the shifter, rather on the side when I shifted into reverse. I would pinch my thumb every time.
