Heres a question that occurred to me. I've never seen it mentioned. Is it possible in our front drive celicas to change the final gear ratio to make them quicker? Like putting 4:11 gears in a RWD muscle car? I don't know if front drive trannies can bo modded this way or if anything is available, but it seems to me it would be an awesome thing to do. Maybe Lucky or Illusive know the answer, or anyone else?? Very curious, it could make a big difference in quickness...Thanks

I believe I've seen aftermarktet gears for our cars somewhere.

I think it would be possible to do, just...very expensive.
I would also say that the GTS would probably benefit a lot more from this if it could be tuned to land lift in the 1-2 shift easier.

wow..I must be on to something that others haven't thought of? Or maybe not...if you think of where you might have sen gears, I'd be very interested. I don't think it would be THAT expensive, but who knows...

Isn't the problem going to be at the top end? Then again, most people don't need their cars to go over 110mph...

i think c-one and some other company makes final gear for our celicas. yes it would mean that gts supposely with 160 max, will drop to about 140, which makes lot of difference in accelerating, who goes over 140 anyway right?

Well, the GTS doesn't actually go 160. The fastest that I've heard anyone hit (stock) was around 145 (Diablo). But yeah, as long as you could still go 105-110 or so, it should be okay.

i know that, but if it had more power, it will max out at 160 mph, the gears are made to top out at 160, but we just don't have enough power to get there.

i'm really not worried about changing the final gear ratio...i try not to race at those speeds anyway.

if i were to do something and had the money on hand to do it..i would replace the whole tranny altogether with slightly smaller gears.

Thanks..I appreciate the link. Its in Japanese though so I don't know what it says. Rats!! What I am thinking to do is, I have an Auto GT. I get really frustrated hearing how there is nothing but a Turbo to improve speed. I think If I can put taller final gear ratio, yes it will lower top speed, but it would do wonders for quarter mile times, and the top speed should still not be reached in the quarter, thus a quicker car, even an auto GT. Throw a Turbo in and you've got a pretty serious performer. Like it was said, how often do you hit 130mph anyway?? Wasted powerband IMO.

theoretically, if you have enough power and without factoring in the CD a GTS will do 198mph, but thats leaving a lot of variables out.

I just want to be QUICKER, not FASTER. Quicker to say 110. Final gear ratio seems like a big help. I know back when I was building muscle cars, changing the rearend gears was something we always did.
