neon switch power source?

I have the switch for my footwell neons hooked directly to the battery for power. It has a light on the switch and since it is direct to the battery, it is constantly having power and is lit. My questions is what is a better location I can put the wire for power or is it ok for the wire to be directly on the battery?

it is ok to wire directly to the battery just make sure when you leave your car they are off.

satochi said it best use the cig lighter or buy a mini fuse extender from a auto store to extend a fuse that's just on when your car is on.

or you can use your door to turn the lights on when you open your car door. your choice.

i connected the wire to the cigarette power wire and used a in-line fuse. they can only be on when the keys turned on accesory or car is on...but its safer then leaving them on by accident.

ok, so if i connect it to the power wire to the cigarette lighter, it will turn on and off when the key is on acc or started? cause I don't want the switch lit up all the time when the car is completely off, i want to be able to turn the neons on when the key is in and turned to where ever.

if you connect it to the power wire to the cigarette lighter, it will keep on working whenever the key is in "ON" or "ACC".

What I did was I ran the power wire the fuse box, pulled the radio fuse out, wrapped the wire on the lower terminal and pushed it back in. Works well and you can turn it on and off without having the key in. The radio fuse is 15amps, you might want to change it to 20amps.

Heres a pic:
