I was wondering which size rims would be best for racing applications. Someone told me 18s would be faster because it has a longer circumference. Can you guys give me your opinion on which size is better for going faster 17s or 18s.

16-racing
17-racing/looks
18-looks

the person who told you would be faster with 18s is wrong, you will be slower, there is more to rotate

EDIT: you will not notice the that you are not as fast, dont worry about that! but it will not make you faster

18's will give you a higher top speed, but 17's will give you better acceleration.

i was watching some show on speed channel, and they have a prodject RSX that they put 17's on (light 17's) and they lost 5whp because of them. its not only the weight of rims that matter, its also that the weight is farther from the center of rotation giving it more enertia

17's are pretty much ideal for both ride quality and speed. If you go bigger, both get nasty in a hurry.

You really shouldn't be racing at the track on your street rims anyway... the people I know who go have a set of small (15") rims for that.

I just got 17's and they look great. The sidewall is quite thin, just how I like it, but there is still plenty of cushion for the rim. Any bigger and you run at a higher rise for bending your rim.

Plus, any bigger and you would have to inflate your tires more often, just to keep them nice and firm. The less sidewall you have, the more you have to take care of the tire. If you start losing pressure in one tire, you significantly increase the risk of bending your rim.

I'd stick with 17's.
