Converting a GT to GTS
I just got a new 2003 celica GT and I was thinking of taking off the GT tag on the back and replacing it with a GTS tag so that all my friends would think I have a GTS. I don't race and I just got the celica cause it looks really nice. What do you guys think?

Thats stupid man. Represent what you have. If you want 'n00bs' to not know what you have, just debadge your car. But anyone that knows anything about a celica can tell its a GTS by looking at it.

people will be able to tell because the GT has rear drums...if you wanted a gts you can get a 2000 model and just trade in your 03' (which i don't suggest you do). are you ashamed you have a GT?? you shouldn't be...you want people to think it's fast then Turbo it thumbsup

badging a GT as a GTS is like taking a hot girl to the prom but not telling anyone she is really your sister rofl. be true to yourself...and others thumbsup

Damn right!

Exterior: GTS has discs all around
Under the Hood it says 'VVTL-i' on the GTS
Interior: manual GTS is 6 speed, GT is 5 speed.
Redline is higher on GTS, and the speedo is too.

I guarantee you people will know. It's so obvious.. and I'm pretty sure you have the GT rims all around as well. GTS stock rims have thin single spokes, pretty obvious. And even if you change the rims, you'll still have your drum brakes in the back which is really obvious as well. I recommend you just take out the GT symbol if you're so ashamed of it. Don't slap on a GTS symbol, people will think you're gay and will flip you off for no reason on the freeway. smile

Yeah don't do it, ithought the GTS came with the double spoke rims and the single spoke is considered an option, even though most GTS do come with the single spokes...

how much you want for it? Also my GT comes with the 16inch alloy wheels, sun roof, and power windows. So, unless they open my Hood they won't be able to tell I have a GT.

I'll look for some pics...but go out to your car...and look at the brake assembly in your front wheels. Now imagine that same assembly in the rear. Disc brakes are better than drum brakes.

Basically notice the difference in look between your front wheels and rear wheels brakes.

Depending on the wheels on a celica, I can usually tell from about 25' - 30' if its a GT or GTS by a side view.

Discs = Disc Brakes. GT has drums in back. (Notice you only have calipers in front)
GTS has them all around.

GT has "VVT-I" on the valve cover, GTS has "VVTL-i." Anyone that actaully knows anything about celicas will be able to tell the difference in the engines.

Exactly, I would recommend against doing this. No matter what car, people that re-badge their vehicles as the 'higher up' trim people hate it.

Just be happy with what you have, and dont try to show what you dont.

GT: 140 hp, rear drum brakes, 15in alloys, vvt-i (variable valve timing with intelligence)

GTS: 180 hp, rear disc brakes, 16in five spoke alloys, vvtl-i (variable valve timing with lift and intelligence) plus it has a different exhaust tip then the gt

Trust me...if you know anything about celi's you can spot the difference between a gt and a gts...just debadge and represent...please dont misbadge a celi rice

++++ Auto GT will own an auto GTS from a stop wink So in essence you would be "making" yourself slower.

GT with a GTS emblem on = POSER! Just debadge it man will look just fine, dont be dumb enough to put a GTS emlem on your GT, trust me people can tell right away, had a friend that put a GTS badge on his GT for a while and he hated that whole week, no way a GT can look like a GTS unless you change absolutely every little detail, like gauges, the automatic has the shift-tronic thing too, and also has the shift up and down buttons on the steering wheel, and exhaust tip. Also the GTS engine is wayyyyy bigger than the GT engine.

Don't fake the funk - makes you a poser. Don't be like one of those Honda kids that put type R all over vehicles that didn't even have a type R trim level.

Just debadge all around. If anyone asks if you are embaressed about your GT just tell them you wanted a clean, stealthy look to your back end.

How can you go and buy a celica and not even know what disk brakes are?? wtf

Didnt you do any kind of research before buying a car?? spineyes

If you know this little about your own car why do you even care what the badge says?? Thats the last of your worries...

I couldnt afford the GTS and I didn't want to get an older model GTS because it would have more miles which means more problems. You guys could probably tell the difference from a GT to a GTS a mile away, but what about the average person that doesnt know the celica like the back of their hand? They would never be able to tell.

WRONG VERY WRONG> maybe you're granny can't tell, but everyone else can, at least around here. Why not buy a grand-am and put a GTO sticker on it? No-one will know...

Here are two pictures, one is of a GT and another is of a GTS, you honestly can't tell me that you can see a difference between them.

im getting pissed, because im fucking sick of people saying that 99% of all celica owners are ricers. i used to deny it, but i fucking believe it now. my friends say my car is cool, but they say that every other modify'd celica is riced out. it pisses me off to see celica's with Altezza's with neons, with parkbenches stuck on the trunk, and especially with fucking GTS badging on a GT angry angry thumbsdown thumbsdown thumbsdown
