it's okay to drive on...you just won't or have little lift...if you are under warranty you are okay (power train 60K mile)..if not, prepared to pay out of the butt for it

I think you mean the cylinder head cover, but you can drive with the bolt broken. The bolt has nothing to do with your Intake by the way.

Pink_panther..my car is 2000gts with 27k here..hheheh..u only had it two wks and you got problem already?? i know how you feel bro..i had it 1months and the clutch burned out..that's so fucked up, the dealer said they checked it out when they bought it from some dude and they didn't even know that the clutch wasn't even factory clutch..Dumbass bastard charge me $500 to change, they cover the other $500..so i bought the ACT street clutch for $330 bucks and pay them only $200..man i was thinking of changing my lift bolts too..the warranty should cover it, beside it's a 5yrs/60k miles anyway, you still have this entire year to go, unless you hit 60k first..I'm changing my lift bolt tomorrow after work..hope it won't break off. thumbsup

this is why I'm going to pretend my bolts are ok.

Lift is still strong, when it stops, Toyota can fix it. It's going to be hell to make them fix this. thumbsdown

has anyone thought of contacting ARP about this problem and asking if they can make new rocker shaft bolts? I doubt that the problem would ever happen again; ARP makes nice race-duty fasteners. If anyone could make a superior bolt that can handle the load, they can.

I'm just shy of 15K on my odometer, and plan on having the techs check out the rocker shaft bolts for wear. so far, I've had no problems, on average, I hit lift between 1-3 times a week.

For those that have had to replace the bolts, how severe is the power loss? Can you desribe the properties of a worn or busted rocker shaft bolt?I assume, when it doesn't engage, power begins to drop off from just after 5K, since that's where power on the low cam profile begins to drop off anyways. since High cam isn't actuating the valves when the oil passage misaligns, I assume it still runs off the low cam, and thus, power will continue to drop off (I.E. no pull above 6K) My car still pulls past 6K, but sometimes, it just seems a little weaker than normal. I hit lift twice today, and both times, it seemed to pull just fine.

My car pre-dates the cutoff for the TSB, but keep in mind, they rebuilt my head after about 1500 miles or so because of a spun bearing a bit almost a year ago. I would assume they replaced the rocker shaft bolts during the rebuild, and they probably would've used the redesigned bolts if they did (since the part number is the same as the old bolt; that's all they use now).

Lastly, what if it's just worn, and not seperated? will they still replace the bolt, or will they just reinstall the old bolts?

I may just have them check the bolts at my 15K service, since the car will be there anyways.

Thanks in advance.
