well, i love the sound and gains from the Intake.
but, i don't think it was meant for an 04.
CEL is lit: P2441 if i remember correctly - some valve door stuck closed it says
i think it's talking about the door in the stock air box that we removed.
i've noticed that lift kicks in later now. 6.3k or so.. this makes it near impossible to land in lift when shifting from 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd.
a guy a toyota recommended making a small vacuum chamber to connect to this one hose with a check valve. he said this would probably fix the lift problem.

is there anyone with an 03/04 that has had similar problems?

Hmmm. if lift is kicking in later then there must be something internal that's messes up.

1.) Did you reset the ECU?

2.) Did you clean the 02 sensor?

there is no code P2441, all OBCII codes start with P0

well, i did what that guy at toyota recommended.
I cut the vacuum chamber off of the bottom part of the stock air box- pretty sure it was the bottom half..
It has two ports for hoses to connect.

I used a bench grinder to get all the edges smooth.
I had to do this in order to get it to fit where i did:
(to the left of the "engine coolant" thing- pink juice and under the black box also to the left of the pink juice. the black box has hoses going into it further left. I used electrical tape to hold the new vacuum chamber up to the black box. everythings covered by engine plastics, so it doesn't look ghetto.)

From right to left there is now a hose (the AEM manual said to ignore), a check valve (one way air flow), a hose, the new vacuum chamber, a hose to the left side.

I got the extra hose(small one) from the stock airbox. It was connected to some sort of butterfly valve that closed when i put vacuum(sucked on) the hose. I believe this is the valve the ECU said was stuck closed with code P2441 at autozone.

Well after finishing everything, I went to the gas station for gas and so the engine could warm up for lift. I took it to the interstate and it seems to have worked. Staying in lift going from 3rd to 4th was easy, but I'm not totally sure when lift kicks in now.

I will continue to test things out and let you guys know what it's doing.

well i just took it out again, just to see when lift hit
1st to 2nd - 6k
2nd to 3rd - 6.2k

well, this is an improvement, but still near impossible to land in lift from 2nd to 3rd.. i need a short shifter i guess. i will let you guys know if my CEL comes back on.

anyone who has the same problem i've had here, feel obligated to PM me. this new vacuum chamber has helped a lot thus far.

sorry it took so long to get these pics, but i've been sick of dealing with this problem.

these first couple are of the new chamber from the stock air box..

ok... i'm going to find a solution to this CEL if it kills me.

this pic shows where one of the hoses from the new chamber i made goes... before i took it to toyota to get it checked out, this hose with disconnected. circled in red, you can see the check valve i spoke of earlier in this thread. toyota added that to the hose and reconnected it to the area in the picture in the NEXT post, not this post..

the red arrow points to the blue wire connector that all of the CAI install guides i have read say to disconnect. toyota reconnected that.. this confuses me.

this last picture shows where the second hose from the new chamber i made goes. like i said before, the hose with the check valve use to be disconnected, but toyota added the check valve(1way valve) and connected it here (circled in red in this next pic)

i added the new chamber in between the check valve, and the area circled in red...

ok, this is becoming a tad bit frustrating spineyes
but i have hope.
i've thought of taking it to another sports shop..
i'm beginning to think i should disconnect the blue wire connector, my ghetto vacuum chamber, and the hoses? this is what all the CAI guides say to do.. but that's what caused the problem in the first place.

the chamber did help with hitting lift a little sooner, but it's still not like it use to be. CEL needs to DIE!
argh... any ideas?

ok.. i took out the vacuum chamber, the hoses connecting it, sealed off the 1 end on the left side of the engine bay, and disconnected the blue wire connector..

a lot cleaner in there now.. car seems to be running very well. no CEL, yet.

i guess toyota really didn't have a clue and tried to install some parts that the AEM installation guide said to remove. this retarded lift, but they suggested i add a vacuum chamber to act like the chamber connected to the butterfly valve.

conclusion: toyota's mechanics suck!
ah well, they wanted to help.

if the CEL comes back on, ima take it to autozone again, check the code, and try other autoshops without telling them about all of the insanity i just went through.
